Yeah maybe Springs becomes our nickle/safety guy. IE the safety on running downs and the nickle guy on passing downs ala Prioleau did in '05.

i don't understand the reasoning behind taking your best corner and making him a safety. are we in agreement that springs is a better corner then rogers?

Oh yeah. I am not saying that is my idea but it has been floated around. Ideally though if we are going to switch a guy to safety it would probably be Springs. I think you get better value by doing that(because of age) rather than say Rogers. It'd be better to let Rogers develop and stay at corber(a more coveted position) and let Springs out to pasture at safety I guess.

At some point in the near future, Rogers will surpass Springs. I predict that it will be next season. Also, we have a better chance to keep all three of them (Clements OR Smoot included) heathy if Rogers and Smoot/Clements start and Springs doesn't play every down.

Many times corners can extend there careers by moving to safety. IMO it doesn't seem like a bad move at all.

I think I was the first to bring up the topic of converting him here on this board so I suppose I should defend my cause. Basically two things-first I used the precedent of Rod Woodson as proof that it could work. Second, Springs is a great cornerback indeed but more importantly he's a great football field. I think just having him on the field is a bonus. And he could be like the equivalent of an NBA swingman, swinging easily from CB to S and back if need be.

I agree completely. I've never seen a better football field than Shawn Springs.

For real it would be stupid for us not to pick him back up.

It'll be like the prodigal son returning and we can get him for much cheaper than we would have had to pay to keep him. I'd welcome him with open arms cuz he has probably learned alot from the whole Vikings experience. What with underperforming as well as the whole boat incident I'd be he is a lot more mature. Somebody earlier mentioned its like what happened to Trotter with the Eagles. He tested FA, and got paid for a year then when he didn't perform he went back to the eagles at a much lower price.
