There's no question to me that gibbs makes the redskins better, he breaks his back for this team. I would probably cry if the left the team. But maybe he needs to get some experienced talent on the personnel side of things (that's a little funny getting some talent to find talent), so he can oversee and learn - instead of doing this on the coaching side of things.

These championships are testaments to a man who can build and lead a team (with not necessarily the best talent) to victory.
The dynamics of building an NFL team have changed greatly since JG's first run, (salary cap) and the mess the Skins were in can't be fixed overnight (ownership change, coaching changes, Free Agent mistakes by the Daniel). But those of us who remember the 80s firsthand will have optimism as long as JG is here.

P.S. If ESPN sacked Joey T. from MNF, why the hell do they still let Pastabelly spew his crap, the guy is a fat, pompus idiot.

Circumastances can dictate what makes a great leader, kind of like how an offensive line can affect a RB, a great offensive line can make a good back look great, and a bad offensive line can make a great back look orginary, but every once in a while a great back is so good he will make his yards no matter what. What we have with Gibbs could very well be a solid coach who was made great by the talent that Bobby Beathard supplied him with in the 80's, the fact is he's going on his 4th year and we are no closer to a championship than when he arrived, we are not a team ready to make that next step we have holes all over the place and now we are focusing on a LB? Gibbs will be in the not rebuilding mode for as long as he's running things, and so long as he's running things we will need to rebuild.

The only thing I can take from the 80's is what Gibbs had then and no longer has now, Bobby Beathard! No longer can Gibbs take the field and do whatever he wants because his offensive line would make anything work, so if Gibbs hasen't lost it as a coach, maybe he was never as good as we thought, because as of right now if he didn't have the credentials he has coming in he would have been fired after the first season, and if he made it this far some how he would be the absolute laughing stock of the NFL, as well as this board with the way he's conducted his personel decisions. And he's working over time to screw it up again, as I said before the dog alway's returns to his vomit, and he will find a way to screw up this draft even with only one legitamate pick.

Well, he certainly didn't forget how to coach, so maybe he was just a good coach in a great situation.

But you forget to mention the most plausible reason for two losing seasons in the last three tries. Maybe he's just a great coach in a bad situation THIS time around.

Well I really had no cause to mention something like that, because the fact is he created whatever situation that we are in right now, so perhaps a bad situation for Gibbs is to allow him total control to make personel decisions?

Re: Pastabelly bashes J. Gibbs

Oh, Joe Gibbs is trying to fix the salary cap mess? I didn't realize that with all of the high priced free agents he's gone after (minus this year). Snyder made mistakes far before Gibbs came back, everything points to him having very little say in the overall player acquisition process. The people who bring in these players are Gibbs and to a lesser extent G Will. Gibbs has been in "win now" mode since he got here (notice lack of any draft picks, trading up every year, etc). Yes, we made the playoffs one year, riding the coat tails of an awesome G Williams defense. I think it's hard to mark that up to Gibbs pathetic offense.

I've given Gibbs three years and I'm not impressed. I'll give him one more reluctantly, but people need to stop living in the glory years and look at Gibbs stint for what it is now. Erase his name and type in Joe Blow everyone here would be calling for his head because of the multiple bad decisions and basic lack of winning.

Which sample size are you going to trust? A ten year stint resulting in unparalleled success, or a three year sample resulting in mixed results? Which one would you draw your conclusion from?

Re: Pastabelly bashes J. Gibbs

unfortunately, Gibbs does not have a magic wand, nor has he been able to bottle his former success. However, despite the critics, I can't think of anyone better at this time I'd rather have coaching the team.

Daseal,
It's now time for you to stop posting in this forum. I don't post very often, but your lack of respect for JOE GIBBS has compelled me. The man built our entire legacy, and brought us back to the playoffs in his second stint. If I ever see you in public...I am going to find your mother and force my dog's down her mouth. Pick another team bitch.

I disagree nearly 100% with what Daseal opines about Gibbs. But he's entitled to his opinion, and he's never acted disrepectfully toward anyone here when expressing his opinion.

Your post was way way out of line. You owe Daseal and everyone else who had to read that an apology. Apologize or find somewhere else to go.

I feel your pain and believe me the last 13 or so years have been very little fun for any of us. I don't think we should keep him around forever but keep in mind the diffenece between 10-6 and 6-10 is often seconds or inches. 1 playoff appearance out of three years back is not what we want, but it's not terrible either. If JG hasn't turned this around by the end of his contract (2 more years) then I will be on your side of the fence in this argument....patience my young Padawan

Re: Pastabelly bashes J. Gibbs

Your sample size reference there is awful. I can't think of a single profession that changes as much as pro football. How long was Gibbs gone again? No one can take away what he did in DC all those years ago, but this isn't the same man. This is a completely different era, and from what I can see he still doesn't get it quite yet.

If you want to judge him on his whole body of work even with that huge gap, go for it. However, I'm judging him on two different works. His first stint, and this stint. If you want to keep a coach around forever and keep losing because he used to be awesome, go for it. Personally, I'd like to not watch a losing team every year. That means a relatively young coach who can start grooming the team in the right direction and not be forced into "you must win now" type of mentality.

First of all name one team that thinks it's OK TO LOSS NOW? OK BESIDES THE...RAIDERS
Of course he's tryin to win now....why wait till latter. I think last year was a huge suprise to all coming off a playoff birth in 05. Due to alot of key injuries and yes some bad personel desissions, it is what it is.

Back to Joe. This is what makes Joe the GREAT COACH he is, being able to come back from this type of advertisity, and moving the team to being better than anyone thought.

STAY TUNED. HE WILL GET IT DONE!

So if Gibb's does not bounce back from last year will it then be time for him to step down?

Honestly, what coach wouldn't be losing with the roster we have right now?

Gibbs is the same guy he was in his first stint. I believe it's reasonable to say that there are a lot more good coaches around today than there were during his first stint, and thus the edge he gives is not nearly as great, but he hasn't exactly forgotten how to work hard in the time he was away.

Game is simple really for a coach, have the best players, make the right decisions, hope you win the game. The difference in factor between the leagues best coach and worst coach may not even be enough to decide even a game over a 16 game season.

Maybe Gibbs was just a guy who was in the right place at the right time in the 80's, but certainly he is no worse off as a coach now then then.
