I want to get into an IMAX theatre to check this out before it's too late. Not my typical cup of tea, but I just cannot pass up the total disaster that this movie is. As a child I dreamed of a movie with all of the action stars in it. Later in life the military destroyed my taste in action films but not my dreams of a star filled action film. |

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Did anyone see The Last Exorcism? I'm thinking about seeing it.. Eli Roth does do pretty good movies... But it's PG-13.. Total turn off...

I have heard mixed reviews about it. Funny you should say PG-13 makes it bad, I think it is the opposite in horror films simply because the film makers actually have to come up with a plot where most R rated horror is just gore porn.

OTOH, I kinda want to peep the rated R Piranha 3D... at first I thought it just looked cheesy, but when I found out it was directed by the French guy who helmed High Tension. This dude knows horror. |

As for PG-13 psychological thrillers, I did like The Haunting in Connecticut from a few years back. Thought that was surprisingly good.

OK gorehound... strap on your 3D glasses and get in the water. Piranha 3D is major fun! Crazy film that needs to be seen to be believed.

I agree with the PG-13 thing. Take Max Payne for example, I had high hopes for it and it totally blew.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I saw The Other Guys last night and I was pretty damn surprised. I didn't think I was going to like it that much but I found it pretty damn funny. It was so over the top that it just had me cracking up throughout. Maybe not worth the price of a ticket, but definitely worth seeing it once it comes out on DVD.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Piranha was pretty good. I mean it was what it was supposed to be. If you remember the original then just take that and give it the resources that we have today. It's gory as hell, plain and simple. With a whole S-Load of boobs.
If you're looking for Oscar worthy horror then don't even see it, but if you want to have a good ol fun time at the movies check it out.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I saw Book of Eli in the theater and thought it was good.
My wife and I rented The Slammin' Salmon last weekend from Redbox. We both love the Broken Lizard movies (Super Troopers, Club Dread, BeerFest), and both figured it would be cheesy. While it was cheesy, it was laugh out loud funny for us and was a pleasant surprise. Some definite eye candy (Cobie Smulders, April Bowlby, Olivia Munn, Morgan Fairchild (ok, that one might be a stretch)) and Michael Clarke Duncan is hysterical as the lead character.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Recently seen:
Buried- 9/10. Ryan Reynolds stuck in a coffin for 90 minutes. This film is a true test of what a film crew can do with a camera, lighting and sound. And Reynolds steps his game way up in this flick. Town- 7/10. Excellent action sequences, but didn't live up to the hype for me. Liked Gone Baby Gone better. Devil- 8/10. I now know what Shamalamadingdong's problem is- the dude can't direct or write dialogue, but he has a great imagination. This one kinda surprised me. Stick to the story and let the experts direct/write. Can't wait for this weekend: Let Me In is going to kick the original's ass (and I loved Let The Right One In). The Social Network combines television's best writer (Sorkin) with one of Hollywood's best directors (Fincher)... look for Oscar noms. Down the road, Coen brothers also return with a True Grit adaptation (featuring The Dude). And who doesn't love a little darkness in their lives?: |
