Re: A-Rod is red-hot
He needs to do this in October, not April.

Re: A-Rod is red-hot
Don't you have to win in April in order to get to October?
I honestly feel bad for the guy, he's in a no-win situation. If he plays well people say let's see if he can do this in October. If he struggles people say he stinks. I agree he needs to step it up in big games, and he's certainly brought alot of his troubles on himself. But I still think he's under a white-hot spotlight and he's over-analyzed to a ridiculous degree. |

New Yorkers have a very short memory. He'll be toast in October.

Re: A-Rod is red-hot
Perception is reality Matty. A-Rod is one of the best players in the game, perhaps the history of the game. And there have been several games in the post-season where he's been clutch. But overall he hasn't been dominant in the post-season like he has in the regular season. And it doesn't help playing next to one of the game's most clutch post-season players in Derek Jeter.

Re: A-Rod is red-hot
I wonder though, let's say he has an incredible season this year and continues to be dominant right through the postseason. Will the monkey be officially off his back, or will people say let's see him do this again next year?

Re: A-Rod is red-hot
Probably a Hall of Famer? Ha. If he retired TODAY, he could make it in.
A-Rod is amazing this year. My wife, the Yankeroos fan is very happy about it. I believe we're watching something great right now. At the end of his career, he'll crush the Aaron (& Bonds) homer record. He'll be at the top of a LOT of records. He'll hit the 500 home run list this year. 7 more years to the top of the list. In a few months, A-Rod will be youngest player to reach 500 HRs, beating out Jimmie Foxx (current youngest) by almost a full year. He'll beat Aaron, Babe Ruth and Willie Mays to the 500 mark by 2.5 years each and Bonds and Frank Robinson by just under 5 years. Beating Mantle by 3 years and Ted Williams by 9 years! Right now, A-Rod has 6824 career ABs. Hank Aaron had 12,364. Rodriguez is WAY ahead of Aaron's pace if he can play as long as Hank did. A-Rod is in his 12th full season. Aaron played 23 years. It's still possible to play that long. Biggio is in his 20th year. Ripken played 21. Bonds is in year 22 and just reaching Aaron. Molitor played 21. Boggs played 18. Rueben Sierra is in year 20. All time RBI record? Aaron's 2297 could be within reach. A-Rod has 1373. A-Rod can reach in about 7-8 years. Rose's hits? 4256? Probably not...but I think he could get 3500 to crack the top 5. He's at 2087 now. It'll take A-Rod about a dozen or baker's dozen of years for that. Rose holds the record for most ABs ever with 14,053. That won't be reached by anyone for a long time, if ever. Don't worry, Boston fans, he will have a few rings by the end of his career. I'm not a Yankees fan but I can't help but root for A-Rod just because of the jerks in the media, Boston and even in the Bronx. It's nice to see him shutting up people right now. I think it will last all season (and career) too. I saw a side-by-side comparison of his swing from last year (and his "horrible" 35 HR/121 RBI season) and it was quite telling. Last year's swing looked bad. He wasn't focused on the ball, wasn't staying in on his swing (bailing out) and his swing just looked shaky. His swing and stance are fixed this year. Re: A-Rod is red-hot
A-Rod is nothing but class. 5 Tool ball player, and changed positions mid-career to allow a teammate not to have to do the same.
However, Yankee fans, and those who dislike A-Rod will always find something to criticize him about. Whether it's his contract, or his annual post-season choke. What fans don't understand is that it takes 25 players to make a ball team good, not the fate of the club rests on 1 person's shoulders.
