"And how about the Washington Redskins, who just about elevated redundancy to an art form, selecting LSU safety LaRon Landry, arguably the draft's top defender, with the No. 6 overall pick? Landry is a potentially brilliant player but, even with the resurgence of the safety position in the NFL, he may have been a luxury, given that Washington already has safety in Sean Taylor, the fifth overall pick in 2004. Washington is the first team to use two top-10 picks on safeties, a fact that mattered little to Landry. "We should be a killer combination," Landry told ESPN.com by phone from his parents' home in Metairie, La. "I watched a lot of when he was in college, at Miami, although I haven't seen a lot of him in the pros. But he's one of the guys I've tried to emulate during my own career. On my visit with the Redskins, I met with (defensive coordinator) Gregg Williams. He seemed like a perfectionist, but also a real smart guy, so he'll figure out a way to use both of us. I'm not worried about us being the same kind of player." " ESPN.com - NFL/DRAFT07 - Pasquarelli: Past drafts shape first round

Re: It's Landry!
I was hoping to address the needs of our D-line but I can certainly live with this pick. Once Gibbs said that they would take the best player available instead of plugging holes I knew they would go with Landry.

Re: It's Landry!
It's a good thing we've got a couple of great tackling safeties. With our defensive line the way it is, we're going to need them.

Re: It's Landry!
Its not a pick that will have an impact any time soon. Without a D line and a pass rush the D backs cant really be evaluated.

Re: It's Landry!
This will give Williams so much flexibility on defense it should be sick.
Now we have a guy who can be trusted in coverage while Taylor roams the field. Also, this guy can lay the wood when Taylor drops into coverage and he is asked to play up in the box. Finally, we will be able to disguise coverages and blitzes again.

Re: It's Landry!
Put me down for this....Landry will go to the hall of fame and this will be remembered as the single greatest draft pick in the history of sports, surpassing Jordan at 3 to the Bulls.

Re: It's Landry!
i like the pick. i was at fedex today and during gibbs speech he was asked about the d-line. gibbs said he was pretty happy with daniels coming back healthy, carter coming on strong at the end of last season and washington and mcCintosh both being good pass rushers. he also mentioned possibly picking up some d-line help on day two of the draft. he mentioned golsten and montgomery both being day two picks and both making the team.
