Vikings' Troy Williamson Grieves Loss of Grandmother, Gets Denied Paycheck

Does this seem fair?

Particularly Childress citing Reggie Wayne as a reason why Williamson should have played.

Williamson has been a colossal bust so far, and the Vikings clearly didn't need him this past weekend but that's besides the point.

Wow. What a bunch of asses. AND his brother has been in the hospital all season in and out of a coma, and he hasn't had much time to be there. Weak.

What a huge pr nightmare. Obviously they are sending a message to this kid who is pretty much a bust so far for being a top ten pick, but they had to know this was going to make them look like garbage. Bad move.

The organization is heartless. Sure, he didn't play in the game, but the woman who raised him died. Shouldn't that be enough to understand where he's coming from? What is this world coming to when we can have no compassion for our fellow man

I wonder if he was a stud if they still would have docked him? I am inclined to guess no.

Wow. What a lack of class.

It not like he just skipped out on them - it appears he went to the team and told them what was happening.

Compare that to how the Skins have handled the Shawn Springs.

Any chance the leauge could step in on this? The comish is so strong about improving the appreance of the NFL, IMO the team should be forced to give him that money.
No matter where you work, there's always comp time for this. I'm in the Marines and was on the other side of the world when my grandfather passed away, they had me on a flight in less than 8 hours.

Yeah, who the hell do Zygi Wilf and Childress think they are? Can you imagine if you took a day off of work to attend an immediate family members funeral and your boss told you that you weren't getting paid for that WEEK'S worth of work? Who wouldn't walk out on that job then and there? Like someone else said above, this is going to be a huge pr nightmare for the Vikings. What a bunch of clowns.

Football performance is one thing and if the player isn't performing up to expectations it's your right under NFL rules to cut said player. But there is such a thing as basic human decency that is way more important than football. If anything, this should be a chance for the two sides to put away differences.

Re: Vikings' Troy Williamson Grieves Loss of Grandmother, Gets Denied Paycheck

While I still think they are lacking class, and just to play devil's advocate: This is isn't like you or me taking a day off from work. He is paid for 16 performances (if lucky, 19) a year. So skipping a game is like missing 3 weeks of work for us 9-5'ers.

Also, would you expect the Skins to pay Shawn if he missed two or three games to be with his Dad?

Given the limited number of performances required by his work, wouldn't it be fair for the team to say - "Take all the time during the week you need but just be back by game day. We'll even pay for your flight to and from the game and make arrangements, etc. so you can be back with your family promptly. But- we may need you game day so be here and be ready to play. Other than that - take all the time you need."

Re: Vikings' Troy Williamson Grieves Loss of Grandmother, Gets Denied Paycheck

That's some cold blooded shit right there. I liked where he said that they could've taken his pay for the year but he was going home. They told him what they were going to do and he stuck by his guns. I had a similar situation with a former employer of mine who told me I could be given the day off for a funeral and I went anyway. Now my day's pay is nothing compared to his but the situation was similar. The Vikings are complete douche's for this IMO. I understand the business side of it but we are all human beings.

I thought the same thing about Springs. One thing that will never change about Joe Gibbs, he is a man of class and decency. I can't imagine a Redskins player ever getting the Childress treatment as long as Gibbs is here.

I certainly hope Springs didn't come back for the game against Arizona becuase he would missed a paycheck if he didn't show up.

I think the team could have worked something out with him. And it's especially ridiculous for Major Dad (that's my nickname for Childress: http://www.cyberboxingzone.com/image...20headshot.jpg http://www.jsonline.com/graphics/pac...an06/bc102.jpg) to basically say "Well, these guys played..."
