Give JC better wide receivers like T.O. and coaches who trust him and he'll probably look better than he looks now.

Roethlisberger has lifted his game this season. The Steelers new approach under Tomlin is more a stretch the field first to set up the run than in prior years. Big Ben has orchestrated it to perfection.

It causes me physical pain to admit, but Romo might end up being one of the all time great ones. The touchdown flip while getting drilled against the Giants was sick! And he makes plays like that every game. Hate him, but he is a playmaker.

Gotta go with Brett Favre. Putting up huge numbers (again), his team is 8-1, and he already holds a few all time records. Big Ben and Romo (barf) are right up there, as well as Carson. IMO

1)Brady
2)Peyton
3)Favre
4a)Romo
4b)Big Ben
6)Palmer

I'd have Palmer higher up there, but the question was "Who's 3rd best RIGHT NOW." Palmer is the QB of a 3-6 team that's struggling offensively.

I'm still taking Carson Palmer.

His team is struggling this year, but Palmer is the only guy I can think of outside of Brady and Manning who has played at an elite level each of the past three years.

I would agree with Palmer. I think before all is said and done he will put up some big numbers and be up there with the very best in NFL history.

I don't see how you can say Peyton Manning, a sure-fire first ballot hall of fame qb is overrated based on the fact that his numbers are better with Marvin Harrison than without. I think you might want to consider what Harrison's numbers look like if he had never played with PM.

Sure-fire? Like Monk was always considered? Joking of course.

In a recent SI player's poll, pretty much everybody picked Peyton as the best player out there. If the guys playing the game think he's the best, I'm not gonna argue with them.

Re: Who's the third best quarterback in the NFL right now?

IMO, this is how I would break it down.

Brady and Peyton are in a tier above everyone else. These guys constantly produce big numbers and have their teams in the hunt every year. Even if you have the tools to win big doesn't mean you always win big, it's how you produce with those tools.

The next tier is guys like Big Ben, Carson, Romo, Favre, Bulger, Hasselbeck, McNabb. Guys who are quality QBs, but are either missing that certain something, or haven't hit their peak yet. Favre is here because of his remarkable season this year, almost like destiny wants him to succeed again, and he's riding the wave.

Then you have the guys like Eli, Rivers, Kitna, Brees, Garcia, Garrard, Campbell, Anderson, Young, Culpepper, Schaub. Guys who show potential, or have had 1 good season but haven't followed it up with much, or are playing in a system that doesn't overexpose their weaknesses.

Then you have guys like Joey Harrington, Byron Leftwich, Damon Huard, Kyle Boller, Brian Griese, Alex Smith. Guys who are serviceable at best, and won't ever amount to much.

Guys like McNair, Warner, Trent Green and Pennington kinda fit somewhere between 2 and 3. Quality QBs that are in the twilight of their careers or at least look like they are on their downward slope or the injury bug has certainly limited their potential. Favre would have been here last year, but certainly not this year.

Obviously, from year to year, a QB can change tiers...some get better (Favre), some get worse (McNair, Leftwich), and some are on their way up (Garrard, Anderson).

You put Romo on the next tier. I think I'm about to lose my lunch!

Re: Who's the third best quarterback in the NFL right now?

1) Tom Brady
2) Peyton Manning
3) HOMO
4) Brett Farve
5) Big Ben

Honorable mention goes out to Derek Anderson, but it's hard to put him into the top five with only a half of season of production.

Burgundy Glasses firmly in place, I ask: Has Romo really earned top 5 recognition?

I think a good argument could be made in either direction for him.

Personally I wouldn't put him in the top 5 just yet.

Re: Who's the third best quarterback in the NFL right now?

The guy's played great, no denying that. I just think you need a little more time before you put him in with the elite qbs. I will say that he is well on his way unfortunately.

My Top 5 would be:

1 a Peyton Manning
1 b Tom Brady
3 Favre
4 Roethlisberger
5 Carson Palmer

I think Eli and Romo are on the same level right now, just a notch below top 5... I'd love to see JC get there soon.
