My Redskins Wish List

Since Matty has officially declared us out of the playoffs, I have lost all hope and am ready to look ahead to 2008 (no seriously, I still have a glimmer of hope. But that's just how I roll)

Anyhow, 2007 aside, let's assume for a minute that it actually matters who is on the roster, here is my wish list for each position in 2008

QB: Keep Campbell as the starter. He's on the verge of greatness. Say thank you to Brunell and Collins and send them on their way. Draft a QB later (6th, 7th round), and pick up some veteran free agent to be a #2. For a minimum salary

RB: It's fine, leave it alone

TE: It's fine, leave it alone

WR: Love Randle El, but I bump him back down to #3 receiver. I'm really liking what I'm seeing from Caldwell when he's out there and I think he should be at least the #2 WR on the team. If not for the public relations nightmare that it would be, I'd say put Moss on the market and see what you can get for him. But that would be a pr disaster so he stays. I like KM as the #4 for a veterans minimum. Might be time to say thanks and see ya to James Thrash

OL: Major changes needed here. Firt off, I have no problem with the opening day lineup we had this year (Samuels, Kendall, Rabach, Thomas, Jansen). But we need some young depth, besides Heyer. I use our 2nd and 3rd round picks on an OT and a G (Eric Young maybe?)

K: Bring in competition for Suisham. But I like him

P: Not happy with Frost lately, his line drive punts are killing us. I want a change there

LB: Rocky and Fletch were great this year, and Rocky at least seems to have a long, bright future with us. A little worried about Washington's injuries. I like the depth Blades gives us. But Khary Campbell is a special teamer at best, and Godfrey-while effective-isn't the long term answer here. We need OLB help. Of course Briggs is the popular choice, but I'd like to see us make a run at Karlos Dansby

DE: Two words: Justin Smith. 'Nuff said

CB: Based on the available talent at the free agent and college level, I think we should draft a CB in the first round. Depending on where we draft, either Aqib Talib or Antoine Cason.

S: Laron Landry is a lock to start. Starting next to him I'm still kind of big on moving Springs there. This is all dependent on a.)if we keep him, which I hope we do, and b.)if Rogers is healthy to start the season. If Rogers isn't then I'm not keen on moving Springs out of a CB spot

So, to summarize:

Subtractions:
Brunell
Collins
Thrash
Frost
Daniels
(among others)

Major Additions:
Talib/Cason
Two Offensive Linemen from the draft
Justin Smith
Karlos Dansby
Late round QB

Well, those are the moves I'd lean toward making. How about you?

Caldwell ahead of ARL?:confused-

Heyer is a backup at best, I would have to over haul the entire offensive line, with the exception of Samuels, we need road graters up front, right now when teams gear up against us in short yardage we lose, a powerful offensive line can make the rest of our skill players look a lot better, and should be a big help to Campbell, although I am very concerned at his inability to make proper decisions late in games, I have seen enough bad decisions to make me ask the question, does he really have what it takes in the decision making dept. at QB? Great athletic ability does not a star make at QB, great decision making does, He has yet to distinguish himself in the area as of yet.

Not kidding you, I drafted Eric Young today in my Madden Franchise. He's playing LG as a rookie since I never acquired Kendall in that franchise.

We need to acquire another TE to play with Cooley. I've been adamant that it be a blocking TE, but as long as we keep respect to pass blocking ability, any guy who we can use in a versatile role, and we feel could start for us next year would do. We could spend a mid round draft pick on such a player, get the scouting department on it.

This would also take the pressure off the necessity for another stud receiver. It would allow Moss to remain in the No. 1 role for one more season, and allow Cooley to work out of the slot in every passing situation, effectively becoming the no. 1 receiver.

Send Lloyd away for a glass of 2% lactose free milk, release Springs and Daniels, attempt to resign both to league minimum contracts but nothing more. If they sign elsewhere, act to replace them with vets (Dayleon McCutchon, or Brian Kelly at corner). Be aggressive in the free agent market to find a cover safety.

Use the early draft picks on the offensive and defensive lines. If the right value at DT comes our way, an impact player, jump on it. We will have to add more youth at the DT position sometime, and while the emergence of Montgomery has made it not as immediate as before, it's still a need.

Otherwise, use the first round pick on a pass rushing DE or a stud left tackle prospect who has the versatility to begin his career at guard. Draft a cornerback in the 2nd or 3rd round, and draft a guard with the other, depending on where the value falls.

With the late round picks, make sure to pick up a running back who the coaching staff likes and will respect. I would spend a pick on Chad Henne if he's sitting there on the second day. There are a lot of flaws in his game and his senior season was a injury riddled regression, but he's got a lot of college experience against elite competition and you can't teach that.

Sign Tim Rattay or a QB of equal value. Don't resign Collins, and Brunell's contract automatically terminates. If we take a lineman in the first round who can start at LG as a rookie, cut Kendall and take advantage of the fact that he has no cap hit. Resign Fabini and Pucillo.

I think you are dead wrong about Heyer. But time will tell!

I agree about Caldwell. ARL played out of the slot in Pitt didn't he? That's were he excells, and that's where we need to have him. Caldwell is the suprise of the year for me. When we couldn't get anyone to catch a ball, he was there. I think he is the reason that Moss came around last week.

It's hard to argue against any of those moves. I would hope it wouldn't even be a question as to who our starting qb is. Honestly, I don't see us having the cap space to get Justin Smith, but I'd love to see him in a Skins uniform and then draft Long out of Virginia. Two bookend DE's to lead the D for years to come. I also think we need to look at picking up a bruiser at running back. I wouldn't blow a first round pick on one, there's too much value later, but I think CP is on the decline barring a major rennaissance next year.

When Randy Thomas is not injured, I believe he's the best on our line...thats not a knock on samuels, just my opinion. Overall, I don't mind our line, so long as its healthy. I think we should draft 2 O-lineman.

As for WR situation, frankly, Moss is injury prone and lacking the explosiveness that made him a star for in 2005 (his only good season), that said, I like him, and don't mind him here, but he's not an elite WR. Randel El has excellent skills, but he really only had 3 good games or so..he's not a reliable No. 2- but I would like to see him more involved.

Overall, I like our WR corps, we could use a big target, but other than that, I don't think its a major problem- our D-line, O-line depth and lack of free safety are...

Re: My Redskins Wish List

My short list:

-Cut Lloyd (I know it's a given, I just can't wait for it to happen)

-Upgrade the WR corps. Moss is injured too often to be counted on as a #1. I would bring back Caldwell and McCardell (if he wants to play again).

-Replace Sean Taylor. Huge task I know, but I'm not convinced that we have his replacement on the roster currently.

-Keep the staff together for one more season. Injuries, a first year starter at QB, and now Taylor's death have been major obstacles this season. I'm not totally absolving the coaches, but I do think that they have faced some pretty major hurdles this season. Snyder won't fire Gibbs... Gibbs pretty much controls his own destiny here.

-Overall... minimize any changes. No need to panic and go on a free agent spending spree, and there's also no need to panic and blow up the roster.

I don't think a free-agent spending spree is even a viable option. We're not going to have the cap room to go after multiple big names. Which isn't a bad thing, it forces us to build through the draft....

I agree there, but I feel like next year no matter who plays there, it's going to be the most scrutinized position on the team. I'd HATE to have to play in that position.

Weirdly enough, the S from Miami is supposed to be Sean Taylor Jr. (Kenny Phillips) but I can't imagine how it would be to come FROM Miami and THEN play in ST's spot.

I don't think so, the latest reports I have heard said he was a projected top 10 pick.

Re: My Redskins Wish List

To be honest I would like us to make a run at Bernard Berrian at reciever or take Early Doucet in the 2nd round if available.

For the draft I would like Glenn Dorsey from LSU to be our DT and in free agency pickup Berrian, Briggs or Dansby, and if we have enough money DeAngelo Hall, or Asante Samuel.
