Bugel says he likes him because he has nobody else that could take his place. He doesn't want to cut down a player he really needs and counts on this year, he is trying to give him more confidance.
Lets not kid ourselves though, Dockery is not very good. I still stand by my comment that I have never seen Dockery (in the 21 games he has been a starter) make a single great/pancake block since he joined the Redskins.
Plus he was a third round (81st overall) selection in the 2003 NFL Draft, a former consensus first team All-American and Outland Trophy semi-finalist. He is not some guy we found on the street. To say he was not supposed to see the field in his first year not my opinion. Joe Jacoby, Russ Grimm and Mark May all started from day 1 in their rookie year and never looked back. Joe Jacoby was not even drafted. Dockery is supposed to be pretty good, but he is not even that so far.
Matty72, I hope Dockery improves and becomes the next Russ Grimm. I am not saying get rid of Dockery, I am just saying we should consider getting reinforcements at his position, just in case he does not pan out. A plan 'B' just in case.

I guess we'll just have to disagree on Dockery. I see a young player with great size and solid potential. Certainly not the kind of player I'd give up on after just 2 seasons or need to have a plan 'b' in place for. I don't think Bugel is just blowing smoke up his butt, he seems to genuinely like him as a player and he's always gushed when talking about him, he doesn't do the same for all the lineman. The left side of the line has been very solid this year and that's not all due to Samuels.

He was a 3rd round pick and not some no-name lineman I agree, but most scouts agreed he wasn't ready to plug in right away in his rookie season. He got by in college on his size and raw skills, but he wasn't a 'ready for prime time player' if you will at the NFL level. We certainly didn't draft him with starting him right away in mind. Fiore was projected to be the starter and the idea was to bring Dockery along slowly.

Since when are pancakes the ulimate grading tool for a lineman anyway?
