Gregg Williams Is Gone
Gregg Williams Is Gone
Williams, assistant head coach - defense, had a meeting with owner Dan Snyder this morning acccording to his agent Marv Demoff, and is no longer a part of the organization. The sides mutual aggreed that he was no longer a candidate, Demoff said, and will move on. The meeting was pleasant and productive, Demoff said, and Williams intended to withdraw from their coaching search Tuesday. At the urging of Joe Gibs he stayed in the process. He reached out to Gibsb again Thursday and Friday and was asked to stay in, Demoff said. So he did. In today's meeting Williams asked Snyder abouyt media reports that he had disrecpetd Joe Gibbs. "Both Sndyer and Ceerato agreed that that had never occured and those reports were totally false," Demoff said. "They wished each othger well int he future and the sides parted." I FREAKING SO DEPRESSED RIGHT NOW |

Re: Gregg Williams Is Gone
I am disappointed too. I really liked Gregg Williams. Maybe if Gibbs had stayed one year longer, things would be different for Williams in the next offseason. Nevertheless, looks like it could be Jim Fassel or Steve Spagnuolo or Ron Meeks, or.....I'm getting a headache now.

What? I thought Blache was thinking of retiring? He didn't seem to be interested in the position.

Re: Gregg Williams Is Gone
For Williams' sake it would have been nice if this had happened sooner so he could have been a candidate for some head coaching jobs (Atlanta, Baltimore).
Blache taking over wouldn't be too surprising, though I think he'd prefer not to stay. Not for any reason other than he's "getting too old for this shit" I think Jerry Gray and Danny Smith are likely to try to follow Williams out the door.

Re: Gregg Williams Is Gone
I like Blache, but something seems kind of fishy about that press release to me. It sounds like an interim move to act like the Redskins were prepared for Williams' departure.

At least we have some continuity on defense. I'm sure that all the players have a lot of respect for Blache and they'll respond well. I just hate that GW had to go this way. I don't think he deserves the treatment he received. Sucks. Thanks for everything GW.....we wish you all the luck in the world. |

Re: Gregg Williams Is Gone
Well, technically Blache has been defensive coordinator all along. Remember, Gregg's fancy little Danny/Vinny title was Assistant Head Coach-Defense.
But I guess from a continuity standpoint, Blache isn't a bad idea. Although if we're gonna blow the whole thing up anyway, I'd just as soon swap Williams with Schwartz. Really sad to see Williams go. It's funny how Danny can be such a good businessman as far as revenue is concerned (Six Flags aside), yet continue to make the same mistakes. His crap never worked before Gibbs, and now he's reverted right back to his old ways. Way to learn from your boyhood idol. I know, I know, he's being "thorough" in his HC search, but to me it just smells way too much like the old Danny/Vinny circus. History is a good predictor of the future, so until he proves otherwise, I'm a skeptic.
