The reason GW DIDNT want the job
According to someone with very close ties to the organization (and Snyder) Gregg Williams DIDN'T WANT the job with Vinny Cerrato calling the shots. He said he knows this for a fact. People have been chalking it up to Snyder and GW not getting along, or not "fitting" but this isn't true. Our front office structure ran him out of town, just like it kept a number of candidates from considering the job.
Hopefully Zorn works out, but he'll have to win over the lockeroom before anything else. |

Who/what is your source?

I think back to the Lavar situation and last years "mole" in the locker room, probably gave the appearance that GW didn't have as good of control of his team as he would like everyone to think.

Re: The reason GW DIDNT want the job
I think most of us figure some variation of this to be the case, but without naming a source this thread really isn't any different than any of the other speculation that has littered this site for the past 4 weeks.

Re: The reason GW DIDNT want the job
GW is a polarizing guy. For every Fletcher who runs through walls for him, you have a Pierce who can't wait to get away from him and succeed elsewhere to prove him wrong. If your info is true (and I question posts like this with no sources other than a guy I know) then it means that he will probably never get to be a good HC. Only coaches with previous rings and almost universally accepted clout are given final say over personnel.

"littered" is absolutely accurate.

Re: The reason GW DIDNT want the job
Oh so now GW didn't want the job, despite interviewing multiple times and saying he wanted the job.
I get it now. |

Re: The reason GW DIDNT want the job
I would compromise my source by naming names. He was at Snyder's super bowl party in arizona, at the press conference this past week at redskins park and is very close to a number of people within the organization. You can take the info however you want, just putting it out there.

Re: The reason GW DIDNT want the job
Don't get me wrong, he wanted to job very badly just not under the circumstances presented. This is the same reason Cowher, Carrol, Spanolo, and Jim Mora all didn't want to touch this job with a 10 foot pole. Would you want to accept a job where you have nearly zero control and yet are held accountable for everything?
The result: we have a previous QB coach with no head coaching experience in any capacity on his resume, who was going to be passed over for the OC position in seattle when Mora takes over next year anyways. (From JLC's blog). It's great that everyone is excited about this hire (because it isn't fassel) and I hope it works out; but we have to be honest that we resorted to option number 10 on our wish list thanks to our front office structure and hierarchy. |

Re: The reason GW DIDNT want the job
What I don't get is people seem to think Snyder and Cerratto don't want and wouldn't strongly value the opinions of a head coach with regards to any kind of personnel decisions. It's not like they will say to Zorn hey why don't you take the week off during the draft. We got it taken care of. Having a GM with lots of power and an overbearing owner isn't some new concept in the sports world.
