Pretty much. Though I would argue if we had drafted depth at key positions instead of signing those fools, we would have been SB bound in 2006.

The 49er's :shakes head: They've drafted a lot of good players, but when you have sub-par play at the QB and WR position you can't really do much. I'm personally hoping that Shaun Hill does well there, but then again Alex Smith is a good guy and I'm sad to see him struggle as much as he has.

Unfortunatly Smith is becoming the poster child for the "you don't need to draft a QB just because you have a top 5 pick" sentiment" In my opinion he should have droped to the later part of the first round and been given a chance to learn.

So what have we learned today kids? Everyone involved in the Brandon Lloyd trade got screwed.

Smith could have really used another year in college. He's got a great football mind, and I expect him to exceed his projection, though exceeding that projection in itself really shouldn't be that hard.

Smith should get the chance to do it though. I see the Niners winning 6-8 games behind the strength of their defense this year. They had a really, really shitty year, but they aren't void of talent like they were back in 2005.

To be fair, I believe that pick was sent to Denver in the deal that brought us the pick that we used on Campbell the year before.
