Re: Saints Hire Gregg Williams for D-Coordinator Job

The popular belief in the media and in GWs own head is that he is one of the top DCs in the league. I can see no justification for that in his career to date.

A little more explanation would be helpful. Our d was average/inconsistent before Williams came to town and he turned it into a top 10 unit for 3 of his 4 years. Do you mean it had nothing to do w/ him?

GW turned our defense into a top 10 defense in the years that he was here (save for that one year we went 5-11). His defense is the reason Gibbs 2.0 had winning seasons, since the offense never amounted to much. I don't think he is THE top DC in the league, but he is a very good one.

Then you are blind. He has had top defenses everywhere he has gone and actually been in charge of the defense. Tennessee, Buffalo and Was all had good defenses. Outside of one below average year here and one below average in JAX(where he didn't have quite the control he needed) his defense have always been very good.

You are correct. GW is a very respected DC in the NFL. His peers respect him and the players do as well. I am not sure davy has the same credentials?

I agree, the guy is a proven DC in this league. His resume speaks for itself.

WTF are you talking about?

You weren't impressed with his 1999 and 2000 Titans defenses? The 2000 team actually ranked higher in yards allowed than the vaunted 2000 Ravens D that season.

You didn't like his top 10 defenses here in DC?

You weren't impressed by his top 10 defenses in Buffalo?

Or do you just not watch football.

What about the Titans and Redskins stats? Do you have those? And do you really think we would have any winning seasons without Williams' defense?

Re: Saints Hire Gregg Williams for D-Coordinator Job

I'll go out on a little limb here and say the Saints should make it to the SB w/n the next few years w/ their team. Given the chance GW will make this a good D. Drew Brees and the offense...they'll roll for several more years as long as he's healthy.

Plus if Brees goes down they've got a good backup in Mark Br...oh sh** nevermind.

Congrats to Gregg that is great for him. If he is able to get them up to snuff they could be a dangerous squad and much more well rounded than they are now.

Can we not (on both sides of this aisle) take the results generated by 20+ players on a defense that constantly turnover from season to season, and attribute all the results to a single person? Is that too much to ask?

Okay, I hope he does well in NO, I've had a soft spot for the Saints dating back to the days of Reuben Mayes and that trio of outstanding linebackers whose names I can never remember for some reason.

Sam Mills (RIP) , Rickey Jackson, Vaughn Johnson, Pat Swilling

They were a great LB corps.

You beat me to it matty. But you are right they were great but had no offense to back them up. The Saints will be very dangerous in a very short time. How much do you want to bet the Saints first draft pick this year is a SAFETY? Anyone?
