Redskins resign Doughty

Per NFL.com the Skins resign Reed to one year deal.

The Washington Times is reporting that the Redskins have re-signed unrestricted free-agent Reed Doughty to a one-year deal. Doughty began the 2008 season as the starter, but eventually lost his job to Chris Horton because of injuries. Doughty spent most of last season on the injured reserve after undergoing back surgery on Oct. 31.

Good veteran to have around...for cheap. You never know what could happen with the health of other starters.

Let me start off by saying Reed Doughty is a great person. God bless the guy and his family because he seems like a great guy and family man.

...ok, now that I've appropriately prefaced that...this guy sucks!...I cannot stand having this guy in the lineup. Too many times he was exploited by opposing offenses and it was unbearable to watch.

He's a great team player and showed a lot of guts when playing. I dislike watching him on the field for us.

LMAO... a little Jekyl and Hide. Don't worry Skinny i bet Doughty doesn't take a snap on d even if he does make the final roster. He'll be special teams specialist at best.

Btw i've heard Moore is looking better and better as a FS, not that he'll take anything from Landry but I wonder if he (Moore) goes to FS in Cobra package so both Landry and Horton can roam up close to the LOS.

Well, he filled in admirably for Sean Taylor after we lost him in '07. His first game starting in his place (Dallas I think) he looked bad, but afterwards was solid. And last year he was hurt. The guy is all heart and effort, but definitely lacks raw athleticism and ability. Great locker room guy, very high character.... and also our 4th safety behind Landry, Horton, and Moore.

I hate bringing it up, but does anyone else ever think about how absurd our defense would be right now with Sean still here?? Sheesh. He'd most likely be the best safety in the league, or close to it with Polamalu and Reed. He'd be far and away the best safety in the NFC. Anyway, just thinking out loud, I'd rather not take the thread in that direction.

GMScud, you are right about what could have been. What a tragedy for so many reasons.

Doughty has great heart and I love that. Otherwise he is...so...painfully...slow.

Obviously he's a back up, back ups don't have to be great, they have to be average. Of course a lot of people have that image of him being burned by Larry Fitz, but then again he's the best wideout in the league.

Not to mention that Landry bit on another route. It was a clear cover one "Angel" scheme called, with Doughty underneath, and that's why he was running with Fitz.

He's so unbelievably slow though. I make that throw for a TD, easy

Smart pick up. We know that our defense works with him in the line up. I'm sure he signed for a min contract and he will have to compete for a job. He is a smart player, good on special teams, and a good tackler.

Re: Redskins resign Doughty

He is painfully slow and in my opinion a below-average tackler, however he IS football smart and hopefully that and his leadership will rub off on our "young" group of starting players of the secondary.
