Some would argue that Riggo, and a few of the Hogs, abused alcohol. Remember the 5 O'Clock club? Or Sonny Jurgenson sneaking away from training camp to go on a bender. Not that I'm saying alcohol abuse isn't a concern, just adding in some perspective. If this guy really had an issue we would have heard about it all over NFL network among other sources, not just some random internet report. Many of us today could have been considered potential alcohol abusers during our college years. I think this is an overblown report because I have been researching Maualuga for 3 months now and haven't seen legitimate concern from credible sources.

BTW- I remember when they said Randy Moss had a weed problem, he fell in the draft. Okay not the greatest example of character, but Brady loves him.

I think this puts it in perspective. Good post Son Of Man. It's something that Danny could talk to him about when he comes for a visit. Supposedly Vinny has set up a meeting with him and Snyder sometime this month. Maybe they'll talk it over between cocktails. Seriously it should probably be checked out but it probably won't go as far as calling a Supreme Court judge "Sandy Baby".

Crazy the way information is these days. Hell in the 70's and 80's it probably would have taken a drunk driving accident with a few fatalities to find out weather a player was abusing alcohol. Now all we have to do is read scouting reports made for fans like us online.

Admittedly I could be reading too much into the scouting comments, but i have to wonder how many teams are "downgrading" their public statements about Rey just as posturing...so other teams don't feel it necessary to trade ahead and grab him. I'm trying to stay objective...and it seems like the best MLB prospect in the draft, who is also considered by most everyone as the hardest hitter in the draft, would be valued pretty highly by a lot of franchises out there.

Rey M. definitely had some off-field concerns (per my USC source), but it seemed like it was more a grieving phase he was going through and he's pretty much past them now.

I tend to agree with this conclusion:

While on the surface this might seem like another low-point in Smith's not-yet-pro career, it might actually represent the opposite. Throughout his fall, many NFL insiders questioned the advice he was given (remember, these prospects are barely adults and swimming in an overwhelming sea of people attempting to exploit them; they very much need well-intended advisors), and by firing Keels, Smith might have finally shown a semblance of sensibility in this process. It's possible teams look at his decision to switch agents and see a player who is finally looking to build positive momentum by recognizing the err of his past ways, someone who is taking responsibility for his fate.

It also says he is hiring Darren McFadden's agent. Seems like a good move for him. I am still hoping he or Oher fall to us, and that we take them if one of them does.

Good for Smith. I still feel this kid got bad advice that led to the fiasco at the combine. I'm sure a lot of ppl want to get their hands on any money he's going to earn. I hope this means a turn for the better for his career.

I'm not a huge Maulaga fan per se, but I like his intensity. At #13 I certainly don't see us taking him, but if we were able to trade down, e.g. w/Detroit at 20 or into the 2nd round, I could see how he might be the best available.

So Andre Smith fired his agent? Maybe his agent suggested he run w/out his shirt at the combine?!

He would never get past Denver at 18th or even San Diego at 16th!
