Best Training Camp Battle of 2009

This isn't a poll about which camp battle you're most excited about or which you think is the most important one. This is a poll about which one you think will be the most competitive and most likely to come down to the wire before a decision is made.

3rd CB/Nickelback-Barnes, Smoot and Tryon

Off topic/ I hope that the starting RG spot becomes a competitive battle between-Bridges, Rinehart and Thomas

#5 Wide Receiver. I think most people, and the FO, would like to see Marko Mitchell get it because of his size and the fact he was a draft choice. I would love to see him get it but I expect some tough competition at this position. I wouldn't be surprised if we kept 6.

I said starting LDE because I think it's bigger than Daniels vs. Jarmon. It's also Wynn and Alexander. And even if Daniels does win it, there's no guarantee that Wynn or Alexander makes the roster.

This was close between nickle corner and RT for me. Very close. Clicked cb.

Re: Best Training Camp Battle of 2009

based on smoots regulations, recievers has to be it. four receivers are guaranteed a spot with roydell, marko, and hagans left. those three all bring something different to the table. it really depends on what zorn is looking for. experience? roydell. height? youth? marko. versatility? hagans.

I chose RT. Although I think they feel now that Stephon Heyer is the guy I think once Mike Williams starts playing he's gonna make it interesting, especially since he's getting so much attention and everybody wants to see him succeed.

Re: Best Training Camp Battle of 2009

I don't think it will be Right Tackle. It seems as if it is Heyer's job to lose. He was the starting tackle at the start of last season. I know Mike Williams has lost a lot of weight but I don't think he will make it to the field until mid season.
The same goes for nickel corner, it's Smoot's until he starts blowing it in the regular season
I think the choice has got to be QB. If colt starts killing it, which I know he will, Zorn will have a hard time keeping Todd on the team.

It's gotta be RT. Heyer may be penciled in as the starter to begin camp, but you can't tell me if Mike Williams has a good camp he won't put some serious pressure on the coaches to start him. Heyer is hardly the kind of player you can look at and say yeah, he's got that job all locked up.

I picked RT fairly quickly and without too much thought and wish I could change my vote. I still think RT will be close but as a "go to the wire" battle I think the 5th WR is going to be the last decision made on cut down night and going to be the slot where the "can we find a keep the 6th as a ST guy" come into play.

Re: Best Training Camp Battle of 2009

I went with #5 WR, but this was a tough question. For me, it came down to the fact that I think the starting RT will be an ongoing battle until and/or unless someone clearly dominates. Meaning even if a selection is made on the last week of preseason, the "losers" are still going to be on the team, and waiting for their chance. But the #5 WR, that's more of a go/nogo situation. You either show your stuff and make the team, or you don't and you go home. For that reason, I think the coaches will have a tough decision on that position going into the last weeks of the the preseason. I almost went with Kicker, but do we have another kicker other than Suisham on roster?

As for the Starting LDE, again I think Daniels starts, with everyone else vying to prove they are the heir apparent.

Re: Best Training Camp Battle of 2009

i picked cb because I think the players vying are so different in what they bring. I'm hoping the competitions along the line are exciting but I don't think Jarmon or Buzzbee really stand a chance of seeing any playing time in the first half of a game this preseason unless injuries pile up.

I voted before I saw your post. If I hadn't read SS's rules I'd have voted for RT. I think that there will be a lot of competition at WR at camp and during pre-season. IMO RT is SH's to lose. Had he not gone down last year Jansen would've never started. SH also stepped in at LT for CS when he went down.
