I have family friends that went to Duke and I picked them up at an early age just like the Redskins. Grew up some in NoVA and some in Southern VA, closer to Duke than Virginia Tech (like them as well, had fam go there); I've not attended either school.

I've only lived in MD since December.

I meant as far as Duke rivalries, but didn't express it well

just that you guys take 2nd or 3rd fiddle, UNC will be our biggest rival probably always

Re: Let's go Terps

duke is definitely up there for me in terms of sports programs i hate. yes, up there with cowboys/eagles and uva as im a tech grad. they give their fans cheer sheets to use during the games where they pick out specific personal flaws of student atheletes. really? they are the most arrogant bunch of floppers and whiners in college basketball. and they think they are better than they really are. they chanted "safety school" at a wake forest game. what the hell is that? so glad that maryland won tonight.

Well they are definitely like the Cowboys when it comes to having a ton of bandwagon fans.

Re: Let's go Terps

I could care less about University of Maryland, but I really don't like anything about Duke (I applied there out of high school, got wait listed, then denied, so I've been saying EFF them ever since). Great to see them go down tonight. I've got several close friends who are Terps as well, so I'm happy for them.

Re: Let's go Terps

All I can say is about time. I haven't really followed college basketball lately in part due to it seeming to be nothing more then a temporary NBA spring board but I think the thing that hurts the most was the Terps sulking in mediocrity. Seems like they're finally back. Which is great because thanks to the Terps I got to experience a team I was rooting for win a Championship live at the Georgia Dome. Easily my best live sporting event.

By the way wheres John Gilchrist these days? I know he was a douche but I use to enjoy the way he used to pump up the D when he was on the court by slamming the floor.

Actually come to think of it the guy I miss most is easily Nic Caner-Medley. Guy could not be stopped on the offensive end.

Ugh, f'ing Gilchrist. Speaking of sulking, that mofo was horrible his last year with the Terps. His second to last year he could have gone to the NBA, he didn't, and then he sulked through the next season.

haha what?

any team with success sees a lot of fans, we have success more than not, so it's hard to claim bandwagon/fairweather, etc college is a lot diff than the pros as far as bandwaggoning, especially in the bigger sports

it happens much more often in the smaller ones

True it doesn't happen as much in college, but I think it still happens. Although I think the king of the college bandwagon teams is Notre Dame.

Anywho, heck of a game. Almost had a heart attack in the second half.

dude these things are orchestrated by a few students, not a huge deal

the highly academic schools always do something like that.. like the harvard-yale prank a handful of years ago, football
