I've actually had the opposite experience, many non-Redskin/non-Eagle fans I've spoken to (very knowledgeable fans also) think the Eagles are stupid for making this deal and we're better for it. I spoke to someone who has been a diehard Eagle fan for 31 years...who gave up on the franchise and can't stomach their mistakes and the recent dismantling of the team. They're not "re-tooling", they're in an all-out dismantling and rebuilding job.


Personally, my vote in this thread goes to "Don't know...wait and see". I can't vote yes or no, I'm conflicted inside, still in a state of shock. I just didn't see this deal coming.

I'm with you on the wait-and-see.

However, it is difficult to argue that the Redskins got boned. If we trade JC for a 3rd or 4th pick, then essentially we got McNabb for a second round pick alone in terms of cost investment.

It is hard to argue that the Eagles got boned. They needed to move McNabb and no one was willing to give up a #1 pick. He could have walked without any compensation to the Eagles next year.

Although I remain shocked and unsettled, in terms of the trade dynamics itself it seems like a win-win for both teams.

Even Andy Reid thinks they took the short end of the deal.

Good move, now we need to make other good moves to regain picks, be it through trading players for picks or trade down from #4.

You're hardly making an apples to apples comparison, but I'd say that Colt McCoy will be a better player than McNabb by 2011. I don't know if McCoy will make it to 37 though.

You're talking about a guy that didn't play in a pro offense in college...and in one year he's going to be better than a 34/35 year old professional NFL QB that has a long successful resume that's a boderline fringe HOF QB? No freakin' way. Colt McCoy = Alex Smith.

I don't think McCoy is the next Alex Smith, for one thing he won't have the pressure that Smith faced.

However I agree that McNabb will be better than McCoy in 2011.

If McCoy sneaks into the first round he is probably being taken by a good team who already has a QB. My guess is that McCoy doesn't see the field in 10. If he is playing in 11 he is making all the stupid rookie mistakes that all first year QB's make.

GTripp has been against this before it even happened and is just being consistent. At this point he seems a lot like Sysyphus because McNabb is here and Jason will be gone.

Mike Shanahan knows more about offensive football than all of us, more than anyone that any of us have talked to and more than any of the "experts" in the national media. McNabb is the Mastermind's guy and in Mike Shanahan I trust.

Now that QB is off the list of needs, let's fix that O-line.

Also, not sure who your "sources" are but if they're guys who analyze stats and have no playing/coaching/scouting experience at any level, their opinions are just like everyone elses.....opinions. Not saying you have to play/coach/scout to have an informed opinion, but it gives a perspective media and stats guys don't necessarily have.

I'll take the opinion of MS, KS, and Bruce Allen over them any day of the week and twice on Sunday. I also respect Jaws' analysis, here's what he said: "Donovan knows how to win football games. I went to the people who could give me the most substantial analysis the quickest. Most were media-types, though not newspaper columnists. Two were just people I have worked with in the past (at MVN). They are all good sources of football knowledge, as I would hope they would say the same about me.

Not sure who your sources are but so far today the reviews I've heard learn in the Redskins direction as to who got the better end. Most are saying the move is very high risk/low reward for the Eagles.

I haven't heard anyone say the Skins got boned.

Absolutely, what we've been saying on this board for years is that McNabb and the Eagles never had WRs. Suddenly we forget that? Donovan has had Westbrook as his entire offense for most of his career.

I've heard a lot of uninformed opinions today as well, but it's staggering how little dissent is among the people who feed me my football information. I mean, literally, I haven't found an impartial observer who does this stuff for a living and likes this deal.

The knowledge gap re: McNabb could not be bigger between those who study it, and those who take their opinions from others. I don't say that to suggest football is an elitist game that only a select few understand (it's not), but that in the case of this one player no one is really doing their homework before spouting off. It's obvious.

You cited KC Joyner as your first and only source of opinion thus far. KC Joyner once said Alex Smith, Joey Harrington, Luke McCown, and Tarvaris Jackson were the Top 10 decision makers in the NFL.

When you refer to "those who take their opinions from others" who are you referring to?
