Redskins 2010 Draft Class with Analysis

idk i was wondering where he fits in the scheme as well. it seems we have enough front 7 guys that we can platoon positions where we dont have a clear cut starter and rotate for guys like AH when they are tired.

we still have to find a spot for andre carter as well. good thing is we got a few months to see how things pan out. and teams are cutting some pretty good players right now so im thinking our roster still has a few more unknown at this time players to add.

Good article. Williams' injuries are of some concern.

...I don't remember Okung having any injury history. Makes the FO's decision I bit more curious.

At this point everyone has an injury history.

None of Williams' injuries caused him to miss any significant time so what's the concern?

It's the ankle injury I keep reading about...it sounded like a nagging thing. You get a certain amount of scar tissue and tendon/ligament damage and mobility declines.

What I was going to say was that when the draft came around, I really didn't like much of our second day picks, such as Terrence Austin and Dennis Morris. I was like here we go again, not addressing the OL and getting another TE and receiver. But then I noticed Morris will be our FB, and that he's a BEAST blocker. I was just watching Terrence Austins blazing speed and return highlights and thought to myself he reminds me of a poor mans desean jackson; gee isn't that McNabbs favorite target? So now I'm looking at those at the time bad picks, and now think they're really good picks. Now I'm thinking Capers was probably our worst pick. I was watching his Senior Bowl highlights, and man was he exposed worse than Erin Andrews was. He got owned by speed rushers and some power rushers. He'll probably get cut.

I was wondering what everyone thought about who our best pick was who will get the most playing time/ impact besides Trent Williams?

but to answer your last question, i really want it to be capers at RT. i know that its a longshot, and i am not saying its the most likely, but thats the player i want to be really successful. not having to worry about LT and RT for the next few years would be really sweet.

Based on the little bit I know (didn't watch the sr. bowl) I liked the Capers pick. Maybe his stock dropped in the sr. bowl & in the combine when teams saw that he isn't that strong. The latter can be corrected. He is a project, probably needs a couple years in the weight room. From what I've read it sounds like he has the athletic ability to make it if he works hard on technique & strength training.

I think Capers was a huge steal, I know only time will tell, but I hope that this draft may have settled both our tackle problems by next season at the latest. And one step further, we may find that our tackles become the ZBS Hogs. Both Williams and Capers need upper body work, but are agile and quick, the question is will the be able to handle the NFCE DE/OLBs. Another good thing about Capers, I believe, is that he will constantly be pushing Williams, atleast until both have earned their respective spots, at which point they will be acclaimed as the best tackle pair in the sport.

Man am I full of hope or what!

for what it's worth, I listened to the Thundering Herd podcast yesterday and he said the Skins had one of the best drafts of any team. He criticized other analysts for praising teams like the Eagles and Patriots who have multiple 2nd round picks every year and claiming that they had great drafts when if you look at the team 2-3 years later, those 2nd round picks arent doing anything. He said the Redskins used their 2nd round pick on Donovan McNabb, who will be better than Bradford, Clausen or any other rookie QB over the next 4-5 years and then we used our 1st round pick on a guy who will be a solid starting left tackle for the next 10 years. Then we used a late round pick to acquire a starting defensive end in our new defense. Heessentially said that those three guys will do more for our team this year than any three players drafted in the 2nd round by teams like philidelphia and new england. cowherd bashes the skins all the time so it was nice to see us get some praise from one of our biggest critics.

For those that hate the idea that we spent a 2nd rounder on a 33 year old QB, consider this - i think i saw a stat somewhere that showed something like 50% of 1st round QBs and 90% of QBs taken in the 2nd rounder or later were busts. Clausen could end up being great, and i think the panthers got great value selecting him with the 48th pick, but the chances of him being great are slim to none. mcnabb could start for the next 5 years if we wanted him to. even if we had traded up in the 1st round to get sam bradford, and even if he beat the odds, we'd have to give him a new contract or let him walk in 5-6 years anyway. so really, NOTHING is garaunteed for 5+ years anyway. given the choice, i think we made the smart decision by using a 2nd rounder on a guy we KNOW will play at a pro-bowl level (or close to it) for the next 5 years. obviously, we'll have to draft his replacement at some point. But i think whomever we draft has a much greater chance of success if he's learning from McNabb than if he were learning from Jason Campbell, Rex Grossman, or Colt Brennan. I'm not trying to knock Kevin Kolb, but i don't think he'd be anywhere near the player the Eagles think him to be if he hadn't been working closely with McNabb for the past 3 years. Hopefully, we can draft someone with alot of potential in 2011 and they can reap similar benefits learning under McNabb. Who knows, Pineapple Jesus may surprise us all and develop nicely under McNabb and the Shanahans.

I agree with the points about the picks were put to excellent use. This could be our most successful draft class since Snyder took over.

I am definitely more confident in McNabb than Bradford or Claussen, both who have different types of issues. Bradford is an injury risk who would have cemented another season with a sub-par line (no Trent Williams). Also, he played in a system that seems to always put up big points at the college level and may not translate to pro success. Claussen played in a better system to translate to the NFL, but seems to have some maturity and possible locker room issues. I didn't completely take the rumors as truth, but when it came from his own mouth in the Gruden interview...he sunk his own ship.

I've read just about every draft book thats out there. Good coaching will enable this:

1. TW will be a great LT, he was rated in the top 8
2. Morris was in the top 10 for TE's in Receiving Yds per gme, Receptions, Receiving TD's he placed 19 for Receptions.
3. Caspers was in the top 9 OL's in every magazine, he will be a great RT.
4. Cook plays multiple spots on the OL.
5. Austin should make it as a Return man eventually he will be the slot WR.
6. Riley will eventually replace Fletcher & make the DF's calls.

Back to the begining it's in the coach's hands to bring out the talent but i think we looking good for the next yrs.
