For months i've been reading Fangoria and hearing people talk it up, how the remake was going to put the franchise back to its roots, and after hearing Robert Englund (original Freddy) give Jackie his endorseent as the new Freddy, i was stoked.

They have 2 sequels on the way according to Jackie Earle Haley, so maybe they will get it right...i'm just kind of blah....

I read that as well and I was a bit stoked.

NOES the first was scary as crap then the franchise became like horomedy or campy if you will, apparently this film impressed the campy part.

I'm too old to watch these silly-stupid teen movies.

Okay i did go watch it on Saturday. I enjoyed it. I wasn't blown away, but i wasnt expecting to be. I think people's major complaint is that Freddy isnt played by Robert Englund. The movie was a faithful remake, so of course people knew what to expect...

For my whole life time when somebody says Freddy, i think of Robert Englund. It will take some time for me to get used to seeing someone else play the role...

That being said, i did find Jackie to be much more scary, instead of just a wise-cracking prankster...

Re: Is anyone going to see the new Nightmare on Elm Street tomorrow?

Well I saw A Nightmare On Elm Street today and it was actually a good movie. I like the changes that they made to the story or origin of the story. I can understand BDK's review of the movie but he really takes movies too seriously at times. He is extra critical when it comes to movies, moving for the more artistic value of acting/movies and ignoring the fun factor some times. The one problem that comes with remakes is that the new movie is always going to be compared to the older/classic version. Nostalgia plays a big part as well because if you look back at some of the older versions and critique them as harshly as the remakes then they would seem pretty lame.

Jackie did a good jobn of creating his own Fred Kruger while still utilizing some of nuances that made Robert Englunds' such an iconic figure. For instace the way that he flicls his finger scraping the razors against eachother as opposed to relying on the high pitch screech that Engluds did. I like how he seemed to be a guy with very bad intentions. Now of course the typical fan will point out the original Freddy comedic traits. We must remember that Freddy didn't really get into the joke telling until part III at the earliest. He was much more sadistic in the first one. A sociopath bent on revenge because he had been murdered by the Elm street parents. Now the acting is comical at times. There are points where there is supposed to be some kind of emotion shown but it just isn't there. However, if you can watch 65% of the crap that is put out now a days then you can live with this. They have some pretty good kill scenes as well. One kill he tells a guy how the human brain can live on for 8 minutes and how he has 7 left to play with him. Beautiful. The movie flows pretty well, the micro-naps playswell also. If you remember the end of the original where Nancy's mom is pulled through the door by Freddy in the end. The mother get's pulled back in this one as well but it's different and better in my opinion.

It's not a 12:00am opening night kind of movie but you can go see it but if you can get a good copy then save some of your money. Nice movie.
