I can't wait to hear the other side...
Man, Coles was one unhappy dude - In the story, according to Coles, Gibbs "basically" said he didn't trust Coles and Coles said he didn't trust Gibbs.
I wonder what it was that they didn't trust each other about? http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...les/index.html |

Re: I can't wait to hear the other side...
From the SI article:
Coles' main complaint about Gibbs was the coach's inflexible nature. "I didn't feel respected as a player," Coles said. "I know everything changed [when Gibbs succeeded Spurrier] but when you feel like you're one of the best players at your position, you'd think you could talk to a coach about the play-calling. We didn't have that situation. He called the plays. We ran them. That's where things fell off with me. I realize it's a dictatorship but there's only so much you can take." Good ridance. :vomit-smi

Re: I can't wait to hear the other side...
You don't feel he has any sort of footing here? You feel as a great receiver you go to your coach and say "Hey coach, they like to do a), b) and c). I think if we tried a _____ then we would be able to get some yards.
coach: shutup and sit down - I call the plays. Really - shouldn't you take input from players on the field who know a lot better than one man trying to watch every player on the field what's going on out there? Shouldn't you try to run plays that your players are comfortable with and feel they may accel with? Coles isn't asking for every play to be the one he suggests. Just to maybe mix it up some. |

If it's a true and accurate statement, I would agree Daseal. But - I have a hard time believing Gibbs wouldn't want input from his players. Rather, this could be a classic case of two people who speak english talking in different languages.

He may listen, but it certainly didn't look like he implimented any plays Coles would have liked.

True enough. Of course, that doesn't mean the plays Coles would have liked would have worked any better.

One should listen to players. I don't know though, Gibbs seems to listen to Portis about plays.

Re: I can't wait to hear the other side...
"People say we're leaving now because we're selfish, but how are you supposed to be happy as a receiver when you go from a passing offense to a running offense? This wasn't what I signed up for."
You're getting paid to be a professional football player you stupid selfish bastard ass f&^%ing son of a bitch! That's what you signed up for. You didn't sign up to be the only guy on the team. This whole story only reinforced my thought that we should have just sat his selfish f&*^ing ass and let him rot. He infects Gardner(which is normally bad thing but in Gardner's case we can thank him) enough to make him want out. He has the audacity to question a coach who has won three damn super bowls. How many super bowls has Coles won? Has he even won a playoff game. Get the f&*% out of Washington and hopefully you either A) have a nice little car accident on the way up to NY and your Career is over or B) (even better) next time the Jets play us Arrignton snaps your fibula on the first play of the game ending your caeer ala Theisman. This article pisses me off if you can't tell. I am honestly close to breaking something here. |

Re: I can't wait to hear the other side...
I can see his point, but when the coach is considered one of the all-time top coaches ever, I'd have to give him the benefit of the doubt and shut up. Coles was unhappy because he was being used more as a possession receiver because of his toe problem instead of a burner. Boo hoo. I can think of about 13 million reasons why he should do what the head coach says, like it or not.

Re: I can't wait to hear the other side...
If we look back over post from the past season alot of what Coles said about or offence is the same things we were complaining about. Another thing is look how long our offence had to play with a inept quarter back who we all knew was just horrible but played nine games. I trust Gibbs can look back over last year and make the needed adjustments and I do not beleive it was as bad as Coles is making it out to be.

Re: I can't wait to hear the other side...
Coles is pouting because he wasn't being played downfield. I can deal with guys being upset that their not being used correctly to help the team. This comes off like he was upset that he wasn't being used correctly to make him look good and keep his stats up. I will not put up with that. I wish bad things for Mr. Coles. Bad things.
