Here is my understanding of the situation. We HAVE to spend 90% of 120M and are 30-40M away from doing that next year. While I would like to see it spent wisely I think our FO set us up well to fill needs this year. I may have just misunderstood the point being made though with all the goings-on in this thread so sorry in advance if thats the case. |

However, I am not too concerned, because I think last year (outside of the McNabb fiasco) the FO office did a pretty good job with the contracts given to free agents and not overpaying for them (I know McNabb was not acquired as a FA, but I think giving up those picks was paying too much to get him). Also, it is my understanding that the contract given to OJ Atogwe was pretty reasonable. I do think the FO will continue to be disciplined in their FA acquisitions and how much they will pay them.

Re: Redskins ready to $pend?
There's a much easier way to do this without going thru the painfulness of mailing in the whole season.
We just wait until team X drafts Luck and then trade our next five first rounders for him.

Re: Redskins ready to $pend?
Glad we can soon start spending. Really hoping Santonio isn't our main objective, especially since we could've had him for a fifth rounder last year and maybe we wouldn't have stunk so bad.

Re: Redskins ready to $pend?
So TB has 60M to spend, how much do we have to spend? Sorry if someone already posted it

Re: Redskins ready to $pend?
It was stated earlier in.........somewhere that we had 45m WE HAD to spend. NO idea as to the accuracy of the figure and with that sort of reliable audit trail......well

Re: Redskins ready to $pend?
Everywhere I've heard says we have 26 million to spend. That's not including figuring out what to do with McNabb/Haynesworth

Re: Redskins ready to $pend?

Lets say the Redskins sign Nnamdi Asomugha on July 27 to a 6 year, 92 million dollar contract with $40 million guaranteed. That signing bonus is amortized over the life of the contract, so 40/6 = 6.67/year. But the year one salary is probably going to be 3 mil or less, with a large option bonus somewhere around year four of the contract. So Nnamdi's cap number in 2011, lets put it at $9 million. That's about 1/3 of our available cap space, and still plenty left to do whatever we want, outside of giving out a similar type contract to a different player. But the Redskins just wrote a check for $40 million to Nnamdi, plus another $2 million in salary due in week one. So while $45 million is a lot to spend, the Redskins just spent to the NFLPA minimum on just one player. And still have $18 million of cap flexibility, even after signing rookies. So yeah, one elite free agent pretty much gets the Redskins 60% (or more) of the way to the spending limit, and from that point on, it's pretty much just a normal offseason.

If we cut/trade McNabb and Haynesworth, how much would we have?

Re: Redskins ready to $pend?
I dont want to sign ANY big name veterans that werent on the team last year. I want to Re-sign Moss, Brown and Buchannon but other than that bring in young cheap guys for the O-line at guard and tackle for competition.
MY ideal starting lineups. WR - HANKERSON, SLOT WR - MOSS, WR- ARMSTRONG, LT - WILLIAMS, LG - LICHTENSTEIGER, C - MONTGOMERY, LG - COOK OR HURT, RT - BROWN, TB - TORAIN, TE - COOLEY, QB - BECK. CB - BARNES, CB - HALL, FS - OTOGWE, SS - LANDRY, OLB - ORAKPO, ILB - FLETCHER, ILB - RILEY, OLB - KERRIGAN, DE - CARRIKER, NT - BRYANT, DE - JENKINS. We should go with all of our young guys this year and see what we have, we are one more year away from fielding a completely competitive team and if the young guys turn out to be successful we have players for years to come and if it doesnt work out well we have all of our draft picks next year and we could be in the top 10 picks again. I want Beck to be the starting QB, maybe he is a steal. He was a 2nd round qb and never did get a complete fair shake. |

Re: Redskins ready to $pend?

Teams affected positively: 1. Washington Redskins: Owner Dan Snyder gave defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth and cornerback DeAngelo Hall around $36 million in bonus money in 2010 to free up room to be a big spender in free agency in 2011. Snyder and Mike Shanahan will have to be creative in how they structure contracts, because the $120 million cap would give them only around $10 million of cap room. On the positive side, the Redskins' current payroll is $75.7 million, meaning Snyder would have to spend close to $45 million in cash to meet the potential minimum floor requirements. Imagine a system that forces Snyder to spend. Am I missing something, first it says that the 120 million cap would only give them 10 million of cap room, but then their payroll is 75.7 million and they need to spend 45 million. How do they only have 10 million of cap room but have to spend 45 million in payroll? Last edited by sdskinsfan2001; 07-17-2011 at 10:53 PM. |
