It's been a real problem for many years.
Giants always tend to sneak out of nowhere (like the year they won the SB). They always seem to start on a losing streak or have a losing record the first couple of games, and then they turn it on and make the playoffs. I know at least in one of these situations, we've been the team they beat that sparks their come back

Re: 2011 Redskins Free Agents Rumors and Reports-Part 3

I think some are underestimating what 3 great CB's and a great defensive coaching staff can do, and Philly traditionally has a great defensive coaching staff. Their offense does not have to be great every game for them to win games.
It will be difficult to throw on them and they will load up the box and blitz all day.
Yes they have spent large in FA, but one thing that kind of goes unnoticed in the criticism of Philly is they had 11 draft picks this year thanks to smart trades (cough)....and they picked up another 2nd rounder for next year for Kolb. They have 10 draft picks in 2012.
When we (Redskins) went nuts in FA in the past we also combined it with giving away valuable Draft picks for more veterans. Phiily is not doing that, in fact they are adding more and more picks for the future.
Philly is not giving away their future to get the players.

Well, they fired their Def. Coordinator from last year and have a new staff. On top of that, they are changing their defensive philosophy along with their staff. Nnamdi was necessary b/c Asante is not strong in the def. their going to be playing (In the new defense he will only be as good as Rogers was for us ). They are a small, quick team that can put up points in a hurry. Last year they needed to b/c their defense allowed 24 or more points in 11 games.

While I think chemistry only matters when its very bad or very good, there are a lot of parts that need to come together for Philly to win it all. Particularly on D.

Re: 2011 Redskins Free Agents Rumors and Reports-Part 3

I'm glad that one of the Eagles have annoited themselves to be the Heat of the NFL.

To literary meet that expectation with the skill-level of Lebron and Wade, 9 (two-fifths of the Heat starters) defensive/offensive starters need to be All-Pro at their positions. And considering Bosh, 4 (one-fifth of the Heat starters) other defensive/offensive starters need to be at the Pro-Bowl level.

If you're keeping count that's 9 All-Pro starters and 4 Pro-Bowlers. If the Eagles have an equivalent of that right now, then I guess for the other 31 NFL teams, it might be better off that the lockout is reinstated.

Man I'm so out of the loop. By the way who does Baron Davis play for again?

On a side note I would like to claim the idiot of the year award for 2011

SmootSmack, any idea why we didn't sign Justin Blalock? In my dream we would have signed him or Yanda. I know Yanda really wanted to stay at home, so it is hard to feel that we failed in that chase. Is the same true for Blalock?

He got paid well and gets to stay with a contender

Blalock reminds me way to much of Dockery. Even though the Falcons play a Zone scheme. Also part of it might be that the Shanahan's are looking for continuity on the O-Line. Thats why the only new starter will be Chester. Usually the more time an O-Line gets to together the better they play. Guys learn when to come off combo blocks, who to pick up in pass protection, and many other nuances.

Remember the O-Line played much better near the end of last year, I'm pretty sure the Front Office wasn't exactly eager to blow it up so they could go through the same growing pains.

Still go back and watch the videos I posted of Torain and Williams. Kory L actually had a bit of a mean streak at LG. At this point my only concern up front is Monty and even then I feel good about his prospects. I know Shanny likes finese agile guys, but the guys up front for the Redskins all seem to have a bit of a mean streak.

Plus the cost of living as well as the weather is much nicer in Atlanta then DC. Not to mention Tryfuhls point of playing for a contender. Only thing DC has on Atlanta right now is nicer districts like Alexandria where the streets look like they're paved with Gold. Oh and FedEx field is much nicer (at least inside) then the Georgia Dome.

Yeah, linking a 5 year old thread is a fail in and of itself.

Re: 2011 Redskins Free Agents Rumors and Reports-Part 3

On top of that, Philly's new DC was their long time (1998 - 2010) offensive line coach and has not coached defense since being a High School Defensive Coordinator in 1986-1989. Not saying he can't do the job (apparently he is a voracious film guy), just saying that is one more piece of the puzzle (and a big one) that seems to be being overlooked as the defensive dream team is being annoitted.

Philadelphia Eagles New Defensive Coordinator Is… Juan Castillo? | Bleacher Report
(With our luck, he'll be the second coming of Vince Lombardi).

Re: 2011 Redskins Free Agents Rumors and Reports-Part 3

I don't even know how serious the interest was in him. Some have said the Skins really wanted Yanda. But the guys I'd heard since last fall they really wanted was Davin Joseph.

I'm not really sure there was ever a true plan B.

I don't really know when Chester fell into the equation. First I heard about the interest in him was a two or three days before we signed him.
