So what I can gather, at least Trent and Monty will be looking at restructuring deals. At a minimum that is.

Garcon over 8 mil a year, Morgan over 6 mil a year, Carriker 5 mil a year, Royal probably to a similar contract to morgan. We are also trying to bring in winston and orton, and we need to sign our draft picks/RGIII. Where are we getting the cap space? I've been hearing everywhere that it's "official" that we have 18 million less this season.

Garcon is around $7 million a year. Morgan and Carriker were projected at around $2 million a year last I saw from our cap guys. We've basically spent $11 million this year.

Garcon has a 5 year 42.5 mil contract. Carriker got 4 years 20 mil and nfl.com is reporting that morgan got a 2 year deal averaging over 6 mil a year. Thats over 8, 5, over 6. not 7, 2, 2.

contract amounts are not evenly distributed over the length of the contract

Garcon, Morgan and Carriker have probably taken up around $11 - $12 M in space between them. That leaves another $6 M in remaining space, before the team even restructures any deals.

The restructuring could clear up to $20 M in space.

They can make the room if they want. Though a small part of me thinks they're saying "f the police" and ignoring the NFL's cap adjustment with the intent of fighting it.

They can sign Winston and some safeties and be OK. It's not a cap hell situation.

Conventional math is how salary caps are done. Theres something fishy about this 18 mil getting deducted thing that hasn't been exposed.

It really depends how the contracts and bonuses are structured. I imagine alot of salary cap crunching is going on at Ashburn right now. Chances are the 7 2 2 will be how the cap hits work out.
Edit: just read the washington examiner piece on Morgan and while its 12 in the first two years the whole length is 5 years so 12/5 is 2.4 mil. Which is probably the cap hit this year (quick math not cc or shneed number crunching)

Salary cap math is not conventional, bonuses, guarantees types of payment all get figured in and BA has shown several times he is very astute at writing contracts that minimize the salary cap implications in any given year.

When I say conventional math, I mean addition and subtraction. I know structuring contracts to maximize possibilities is tough, but looking at a cap sheet and figuring out if our team is under/over the cap is pretty straight forward.

Redskins | Financials for Joshua Morgan
Tue, 13 Mar 2012 19:19:42 -0700

Updating a previous report, the deal between the Washington Redskins and WR Joshua Morgan is for $5.5 million to sign, $1.8 million in base salary for 2012, which is fully guaranteed, and then for $3.8 million in base salary in 2013, and another $900,000 in bonuses.

According to KFFL, the cap number should be about $2.9 million for Josh Morgan. Unless part of that $900,000 is on this year then it could be higher.
