Gameplan vs Bills:Vanilla or Butter Pecan?
We haven't really talked about the first preseason game Thursday night against the Bills.
What thoughts are you having about the game? Do you think the offense will unviel some of the new elements of the offense? (i.e. Pistol, Shotgun on 1st and 2nd down, zone-read, option) Do you think they should unviel any of the new offense and why? What do you want/expect to see? |

My thought is... Whatever this team needs the most work on. We don't need to unveil any cool plays we are all waiting to see and we just need to get in some good work.

I'm expecting a vanilla gameplan. The goal here is not so much to win the game (though that is an added bonus) as it is getting our young guys some reps in live game situations to help their adjustment to the NFL. Only thing that matters to me in preseason is injuries.

I wouldn't expect to see anything too crazy out of this first game. Starters will probably only play a couple of series.

I expect to see some runs and some passes. Maybe even a qb option as well.

Our QB may be superman but he is still a rookie.
Let him play a few sets and throw some long balls so we can find out who our recievers are. I hope the Bills throw at us a lot so we can look at our safetys more.

To the OP's question, I am hoping for butter pecan. Not a full exploration of the play book, of course, but some experimentation to see what works best with #10 and what does not.

You KNOW they are going vanilla. I can already hear the cries of Skins fans around the world about the play calling.

I would not be surprised to see RGIII play the entire first qtr. He needs the reps.

I think I would be a bit shocked if they let him play a whole quarter. Given what happened to Jenkins last year, I'd bet they want to be very careful with players they feel will be major contributors this year.

I think you'll see them run some plays out of pistol and possibly incorporate an option or two. The skins need to get some live game reps with these new formations and plays that figure to be part of their offense.
It'll be exciting to see either way. |

Re: Gameplan vs Bills:Vanilla or Butter Pecan?
I think we'll see Vanilla. Going anything more than that is only an attempt to make the other team, who isn't using any wrinkles, look bad. At this point -- I want to see our receivers/RG3 beat single coverage. I would like to see RG3 play at least a quarter, maybe a half. Let him get a rhythm in live action. If he's getting hit, get him out.
I don't want to see more than 1-2 series of Grossman. Want a big dose of RG3 and Cousins.

Re: Gameplan vs Bills:Vanilla or Butter Pecan?
I wouldn't even play RGIII at this point with the issues along the oline. No reason to risk a freak injury because of a missed assignment etc

RGIII is playing. That much you can rest assure of. (barring any injury)
