Re: Should Mike Shanahan be fired?
I remember when Shanahan was hired he said he had a year to study offense and defenses in the NFL and that he was ready to coach again. The disappointing part is that in that year all he could muster was Jim Haslett for his DC.

Re: Should Mike Shanahan be fired?
No, firing Mike Shanahan doesn't make sense. Fire Jim Haslett. Our defense has never been in the top 10 ever since we made the switch to the 3-4. "Mirror to the Steelers defense" ...my ass. Anyone else like the idea of going back to the 4-3.

Re: Should Mike Shanahan be fired?
I do. I've never like 3-4 defense. Yes, we have gotten more turnovers but we also give up a lot more yards and points. Think about his going into next year in a 4-3 defense - Rak & Kerrrigan on the ends/Carreker(could also be used a a DT) - bowen/Jenkins/cofield/Nield as the DT, riley/fletcher mlb, wilson/jackson/Alexander (or move him back to DT) or FA as the olb's, DB - FA, Wilson,Hall,Crawford, S- need major upgrades here. The point hat I'm trying to make is that we would not have to have a major overhall of players to go back to the 4-3. Our defense has sucked since going to the 3-4.

Re: Should Mike Shanahan be fired?
That, or Jim Haslett is trying to run electricity to a gasoline stove. Fukkin Idiot, switching to a 34 was the worst setback this team ever had. Even worse than Haynesworth. Shoot, I might get roasted for this, but had we stayed in the 43, who knows, we might have the best DLine in the league today.............

Alfred Morris Darrell Young Monty Trent Williams Fred Davis (IR) Garcon (IR) Steve Bowen Perry Riley Ryan Kerrigan Barry Cofield Guys who may develop into that type of player: Paulson Lichtenstieger Cousins Hankerson Helu (IR) Young Guys who may develop into everyday starters in a couple years: Gettis LeRibeus Robinson Then you have solid guys like Moss, Alexander, Golston and Morgan. Maybe not guarranteed starters on other teams but certainly solid NFL players who would be picked up in a heartbeat if we cut them tomorrow. The team has talent and youth most of it assembled by the current regime. It still has holes (note the lack of any DB's listed - I thought about Crawford, Bernstine but really don't think they have shown enough to indicate that they will be more than new and not-so-improved Byron Westbrooks). I personally think the depth has been increased from the team that Shanahan inherited. For the record, I think Shanny got an aging, talented team that had little or no depth. But to say there is no talent other than RGIII is just wrong.

I don't know if you could compile such a list on the defensive end of the ball. (Well minus Cofield, Kerrigan and Bowen, since you threw them on this list) Speaking of which, you left off Orakpo who I think would fall into that first list.

Let's see what the D list looks like after this offseason. I suspect changes are in the offing.

I think Kerrigan is also very talented. Hasn't been showing up recently but still very talented.

Re: Should Mike Shanahan be fired?
This is a silly thread. Our offense is finally good and our defense got screwed as a result of the salary cap penalty. We had a bad game on offense yesterday with a bad case of the drops. No Fred Davis, no Garcon, lots of dropped balls. It looked like the players on offense were playing tight against a great defense. Our secondary is garbage without having Orakpo there to lead the pass rush. Even with the current coaches, I think we could improve a lot with some good free agent targets and draft class to fix the back end and build more depth in the front. A middle of the road defense with this offense would have us competing for the division title. Anyone remember the calls to fire Tom Coughlin before his superbowl run? Why fire the guy who has put us right on the cusp of where we want to be? Fire Haslett? Maybe, but only because I believe he has limited upside, not because I think he is incompetent.
