Re: Scariest Moments of Your Life
1998 new years eve traveling to NYC for a Phish show 4 inchs of snow on the ground travaling 95 north. Went over a bridge going 55-60 mph Chevy Blazer right by Kings Dominion....the rear end slide slow around where my driver side window was facing north up 95. I didnt do anything and the SUV came to almost a stop. Thank god there was no traffic. I had mushrooms and herbals on my too but wasnt under the influence.
After a night of partying in "the bottom" of Richmond went to our car where a guy was yelling scream at some people 1 car over where we parked. As we got in Ill never forget seeing the mussel flashes light up my friends face as this dude was release a pistol into the ground and then the sky. Think that was 97-98 I got robbed in "the Fan" in Richmond by a group of teenagers bout 6-7 years ago, but never was really scared. Happened so fast and I was a little lit.

Never experienced this first hand but if I did I'm pretty sure this was jump straight to the top of the list.

Re: Scariest Moments of Your Life
Some really good stories in here, thanks for sharing. I guess I've been lucky so far, the most scared I can ever remember was when me and a couple friends went snowboarding in WV a couple years ago. We had never been out in WV before so we didn't know what the drive would be like, and my brilliant plan at the time was to hit the road right after I got off work at 5 pm, when it would be getting dark already.
So we hit the road, we were following the gps as soon as we got off 81 (highway to southwest VA), and as soon as we got in WV it was pitch dark mountain roads until we got to the hotel. Eventually we got to a point where we were about 30 miles from the place, and my gps told me to take a turn down a road called Highway 19. As soon as we turned onto this road, we noticed it was a gravel road covered with ice and snow. That was our first warning something was off. I checked the alternate route to see if there was a better way, but it said we either go 5 miles on Highway 19, or go 40 miles around the mountain. Well, I decided as long as I kept my foot steady on the gas, we'd be able to make it (note, I was driving a Corolla at the time, not the best ride for going over snow/ice covered roads), so we pushed on. About half a mile in we noticed this gravel road was only wide enough for one car, and it was about 10:30 at night so we couldn't see anything, but we kept going anyways, because the road was so narrow there was no room to turn the car around. About 3 miles in on this road, we were going up some really steep terrain, and we were high enough on this mountain I could look out my window and see the tops of trees about 20 feet down, so I knew if we slipped off this icy gravel road for any reason we'd probably be seriously injured, and yet I kept going. Well, not long after, my car lost traction and slid into a small snowbank. I pulled the e-brake, collected myself, asked my friends if they were ok, and then I opened the door and noticed my left front tire was about a foot away from the edge of the cliff. We got out really carefully, we dug the tires out of the snow, and since there was no room to turn around I had to drive my car in reverse about 2 miles back down the mountain until the road got wide enough to turn the car around. And then we took the long route around the mountain. Definitely a bad decision on my part to take the shorter, unsafe route. |

My scariest moment happened about a month ago. My daughter is six years old. About two years ago she was sitting in the living room playing and walks over to me and says "rite here hurts". She was pointing at her heart. Me and my wife started asking her questions like "is it a sharp pain"? Yes. Is it a dull pain - yes. You know how kids are. So it was after doctors hours and we took her to the er. They did some quick tests and chalked it up as indigestion. We followed up with the ped next day and he confirmed. Give her half a tums. Lay off the dairy. Ok. So over the past couple years there have been a few more - half tums - feels better. Than last month - late again in the day - she tells me it hurts. This time was different - she was crying. So we go back to the er. They check her vitals which are good - and want to do an ekg. Ok. Wait about an hour for the results. Doc comes in and i stand up like "ok where do i sign - see ya later". I heard the doc say blah blah blah _ enlarged left ventricle - could be normal for kids - blah blah blah - gonna do an x-ray to see if she has an enlarged heart! I looked at my wife who was in shock as was i. Enlarged heart is not a good scenario in any way. Carried my daughter down to the x-ray room and than waited an hour for THOSE results. Longest hour of my life. Scariest hour of my life. X-rays were good. They wrote up some report about a gas pocket in her ribcage. Not fart gas either. Told us go home and see cardiologist when we can get in. Next day we call ped and he goes "i cant believe they sent u home with that take her to jersey shore hospital rite away! Here we go again. Very scared waiting to see those doctors. More tests - all good. Cardiologist two days later- all good. Very thankful today.

Re: Scariest Moments of Your Life
Just remembered one that probably should have scared me more but didn't for some reason.
In college, I was getting ready to cross the street to class. I was a bit distracted b/c I had an exam or something. Saw on coming traffic and distractedly realized "oops, need to stop" at the last second. I tripped over my own feet stumbled into the traffic lane and fell to the ground. I hear screeching and feel the tire on the back of my head as it stops. The tire hit my head just as it was stopping, the last inch or so of wheel turn caused my head to got tight to the pavement. Guy who hit me was sure I was dead - so were the two or three bystanders. I, on the other hand was like, "man, I need to get to class - sorry for falling in front of your car." I grabbed my stuff and was on my way in about a minute. As a kicker, it happened on the day John Belushi died.
