Re: ***2010-2011 College Hoops Thread***
I'm not a fan of basketball but you don't have to be a fan to have enjoyed the games over the weekend. After maybe a few to many I really got into the FL/Butler game cheering for Butler when they were down by maybe 12. I'm probably now hooked on the sweet 16 and will watch again next year.

I like college basketball a lot but not a huge basketball fan, football is my favorite sport by far. Outside of the CAA I don’t really keep up with many teams; ill watch VT when theyre on tv and ill watch Duke since their always on tv. But I think the most exciting thing in sports is the NCAA tournament by far. It surpasses playoffs and the Superbowl for me. You have seniors that are playing the last high level basketball game of their lives, freshman in transition to the NBA not used to losing, underclassmen who want to help their seniors dreams come true, first time NCAA tournament crashers, unbelievable upsets, multiple high intensity play/effort/hustle basketball games at once all day long, girls winning their office pools, experts eating crow, Cinderellas, and a stark difference in emotions on the 2 opposing sides of the court once the final horn is blown. Obviously with the Rams winning this has been the most enjoyable and memorable tournament for me so far, but this is something I say each year to my friends. This is the best event in sports. GO VCU!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hes just an idiot. I think what the selection committee recognizes that he and many other people don’t is that the CAA has been a really good tough conference for the last 5 years+. USC and UAB probably shouldn’t have been invited over some of those teams but VCU can make a case for themselves just as much as the other teams on that list. Something I don’t really like is that the selection committee makes their picks based off of how a team has preformed over the entire season not just how it finished. VCU finished weak in the regular season, but overall our play all year long was pretty strong (sure we did do well in the CAA tournament). Just like how BYU didn’t finish as strong as they played prior to losing a key player but they still got a pretty high seed (probably deserved now in retrospect).

Alright, can you agree the inclusion of vcu was questionable over a CU or VT? Performance in the tourney has nothing to do with it.

Now apparently RPI is a guideline the committee uses in determining the Field. Takes into account strength of schedule. Bad losses and quality wins. So based on that, it can be argued they belonged

Re: ***2010-2011 College Hoops Thread***
Yeah, to go along with what Chico is saying if VT or CU was included over VCU it would be just as questionable, but not as questioned since theyre bigger names from bigger conferences. VCU was easy to point a finger at. USC and UAB were probably the more appropriate teams to call out.
Ill be the first to admit the way VCU is playing right now is a little (a lot) different then how they played all year. But i still think they played well enough to be included. I didnt think they would get included because were in the CAA but i still thought we were deserving. This was the most competitive CAA ive ever seen, there are a lot of good teams in a very well coached and now very well recruited conference. I thought that Mason and ODU had a good shot at running to the Sweet 16, and thought it would be great if VCU won their first non-play in game. Now im just ecstatic. Also to talk about VCU a little. We are probably the most athletic team in the CAA (and most other mid-majors) and have been for the last 5 years or so (since Grant took over). Our players are just a lot more "raw" then the other teams in the CAA, albeit much more physically gifted. Right now they are just coming together, so physically they can match up well with the best teams in the country (with the exception of a pre-NBA lottery picks), and have always been able to. For whatever reason they are also matching up well when it comes to just good old fashion basketball fundamentals. The last few weeks have really been the first time the Rams have been playing to their potential all year long.

VCU and Butler may be the darlings of the Final Four, but John Calipari vs. Jim Calhoun will be must-see TV | masslive.com ESPN's March Madness bracket contest was played by roughly 5.9 million college basketball fans this year. And guess what? Only two people picked the VCU, Butler, UConn, and Kentucky Final Four.

2 for 4 is damn good, espically since Bulter is one of your picks. They arnt just some magically team on fire right now (like VCU), they were a team most people just selpt on.
