Same here, but you can only play the games on your schedule. Do you think Houston would have a shot in hell against any of the other top ten teams?

He was amazing for the University of Florida.

But he quit. Flat out. He said health, family, blah blah. I think the main reason is he realized that with Tebow and two titles in a 3 year span, he could never hit that ceiling again. He set the bar so high.

He said he needed to get away to be with family and take care of himself. He said he was going to take some "significant time" away from coaching. So right after he leaves Florida, he takes a job in Bristol, CT, 1000 miles away from his family. And then a year later he's right back in the coaching game?

This whole thing has soured me on Urban Meyer for sure. But Ohio State is going to own the Big 10 for as long as he's there.

Yeah i feel ya...him coming back kinda hurts Florida because he has great recruiting ties to the state and the SEC area in general. He is gonna come down there and take a good number of very talented kids up to OSU. It will be interesting, I think OSU is going to be a challenging job for him and the Big Ten will provide more of a challenge than people are thinking.

Jim Rome made lol while driving at lunch on Urban Meyer situation and using his family as the reason to get out of head coaching and now Urban gathering the family around over the weekend and stating "All right guys, Im outta here"

Just VT!

The thing is, that goes against the whole Boise St. logic of why they will probably never get a shot at the national title; they can only play the games on their schedule. VT could have played better teams if they wanted to, but a loss would have only counted against them so it wasnt worth taking that chance. If youre in a major conference youre rewarded for playing it safe.

VT is favored by around 7 right now, it should be interesting where the the spread ends up. I dont know what was more surprising VT dominating UVA or USC dominating Clemson. It should be a good game and i have no idea what to expect from either team. Right now though i think i would take Clemson.

Mmmm, possibly with the recruits. Jimbo Fisher and Bill Muschamp have some really solid recruiters on staff as well, and they're in their own back yard. Plus, with the sanctions soon to come down on Miami- and they'll be very severe- The U won't be competing with UF or FSU for top-shelf in-state players for a long time.

As far as Urban goes- the way I see it, if you're gonna quit, just quit. Don't stand there and piss on us and tell us it's raining.

Dunno, glad he's back in ball...but I really hate OSU.
He jumped ship to protect his self interest. Guy is a sham. Health problems? Spend time with family? Bull shit...lol You don't say that and turn around and start coaching again a year later. Going to laugh if he falls flat on his face.

Re: Official 2011 College Football Thread

I did find this little nugget a few minutes ago. From December of 2009 when he took a "leave of absence" only to return a few months later just in time for spring practice.

"But what I didn't want to have happen, and I made this clear to Jeremy, if I am able to go coach, I want to coach at one place, the University of Florida. It would be a travesty, it would be ridiculous to all of a sudden come back and get the feeling back, get the health back, feel good again and then all of a sudden go throw some other colors on my shirt and go coach. I don't want to do that. I have too much love for this University and these players and for what we've built." -Urban Meyer 12/2009

I had forgotten about that. Made my blood boil a little bit.

Every game I watch VT, they impress me more and more. Sure, LSU or Alabama would pound them, prison-style, but Logan Thomas is really turning into a pretty good QB (not to mention a BEAST). I remember early in the season he was SO robotic with his mechanics and now he has a pretty good touch on his deep balls and is making good decisions.

This. He has really come into his own since the shellacking Clemson put on them earlier. And you can see it, they look better every week. That game against Virginia they just put their heads down, and played steadily good football. It wasn't a fluke that they played their most complete game of the season, imo, last week.

Re: Official 2011 College Football Thread

Myers has no obligation to anyone except his family. College football is a business and he is free to walk away and then come back. I hope he fails only because I hate OSU. Btw, when is the ncaa going to sanction them?

I agree they seem to get better every game. I dont remember Logan Thomas entire story but i dont think they converted him to qb until the spring, right? Give him a couple years and he could be real real good.

Either way Houston is getting prison style pounded by So Miss so that leaves VT as the only remaining most overrated top 10 team. I dont think Clemson is going to violate VT tonight like So Miss is doing to UH, but i think Clemson is going to pull of a win. Should be a real good game though. Either way im routing for Tech.

Lets go VT!
