Another NICE grab... How did he not get drafted?

If this kid can apply himself and make plays in preseason then he might even unseat Josh Wilson opposite D. Hall.
From what I read he graded as a 2nd or 3rd rounder prior to the injury, but still, to snag him as a UDFA will be a steal if he comes back 100% or close to it.

I can tell you that 80% of the players drafted in the 2nd and 3rd rounds from previous drafts are no longer in the league, which is also a real possibility for Minnifield. If Minnifield was a 2-3 round talent then he would have gone there, or atleast would have gotten drafted. He didn't. Theres a reason 32 teams passed him up in the draft, and thought that 253 players were better than him.

Re: UDFA Thread

Injury red flags knocked him out of the draft. It happens.

If healthy he was definitely draftable.

Re: UDFA Thread

04/25/2012 - Former Virginia defensive back Chase Minnifield is recovering slower than expected from his January knee arthroscopy, which reports indicate included a microfracture procedure, but he expects it will lead to an improved final result. "I am getting better every day and I only have trace swelling," Minnifield told NFLDraftScout.com. "My doctor, James Andrews, made a report that all NFL teams received. They know. I am not 100 percent, but I will be." Minnifield would not confirm he had microfracture during his January 3 knee scope, but said he was familiar with the procedure. Multiple league sources confirm that medical reports said he had the procedure. Team reactions have been mixed. Minnifield, once projected as
a second round draft prospect, has dropped two or more rounds on some boards and at least one team said he is off their draft list now. "We know this procedure is designed to enhance recovery and make the knee more sound," reported one team executive. "We also know it takes time." Despite Minnifield's desire for a rapid recovery, studies on NBA players who had microfracture indicate that a slow, deliberate rehabilitation yields the best results, although some individuals respond quicker than others. Microfracture is a procedure developed in the late 1980s by famed Vail, Colorado orthopedic surgeon Richard Steadman. Dr. Andrews, whose clinic attended Minnifield, advocates a version of that procedure. It is an arthroscopic procedure that is done in conjunction with a traditional clean-out, which is what Minnifield said he had. - Frank Cooney, The Sports Xchange

Yeah notice I used the phrase "prior to the injury."

^ yeah I know, what I'm saying is that guys can get injured and if teams like them or want to take a chance on them they'll still go get them. He just wasn't that good before the injury. A lot of teams had him graded low before his injury, some think he was overrated.

Re: UDFA Thread

So signing him as a UDFA was a good move by us a WIN WIN. He makes the Team it's a WIN didn't cost a pick or alot of $$, if he dosen't make the team it's a WIN didn't cost us a pick or alot of $$.

You can tell us that but you would be blatantly, utterly, incontrovertibly wrong. Unless you're talking about 2nd and 3rd rounders drafted in before 2002.

2011: 31 of 31 2nd rounders were on the roster at the end of 2011.
30 of 32 3rd rounders were on the roster at the end of 2011.

2010: 29 of 32 2nd rounders were on the roster at the end of 2011.
23 of 33 3rd rounders were on the roster at the end of 2011.

2009: 29 of 32 2nd rounders were on the roster at the end of 2011.
27 of 35 3rd rounders were on the roster at the end of 2011.

2008: 26 of 31 2nd rounders were on the roster at the end of 2011.
27 of 35 3rd rounders were on the roster at the end of 2011.

2007: 27 of 32 2nd rounders were on the roster at the end of 2011.
15 of 34 3rd rounders were on the roster at the end of 2011.

2006: 26 of 32 2nd rounders were on the roster at the end of 2011.
17 of 33 3rd rounders were on the roster at the end of 2011.

NFL Draft History and AFL Drafts - Pro-Football-Reference.com

I stopped b/c, even from drafts six years ago, two thirds of the players drafted in the 2nd and 3rd were still in the league at the end of last year. Of the 2nd and 3rd rounders drafted four years ago, more than 80% were still in the league at the end of 2011.

If Minnifield was a 2nd or 3rd round talent knocked out of the draft due to injury concerns (1) it wouldn't be the first time that had happened only to have the player come back and be a solid contributor; and (2) if we get 2nd or 3rd round production from Minnifield we have a pretty good shot at many serviciable years.

Sorry, the inanity of your 80% assertion was just to blatant to let pass.
