Maybe unattainable ones. He would have fought the corporations tooth and nail. He would have left gays and minorities off of the shit list and treated them like effing human god damned beings. He also looks exactly like Larry David which is always a plus. He would have done good for the environment too. Minor details. |

The southern black vote fucked Bernie from getting that nomination. I can't for the life of me understand why they wouldn't vote for a guy who was arrested for protesting civil rights or who walked with Martin Luther King over a woman who's policies led to high incarceration rates for blacks. The sad part of it is, the southern votes shouldn't really even mean anything because they are in deep red states which will always go red in presidential elections.

Re: Election Day
This is the only silver lining I can see right now...
While I fully expect him to fail spectacularly, I'll be the first to eat crow if he doesn't. Maybe next time the country will find someone who has it right. Time to start posting more on football. This is the most I've cared or talked about politics in my entire life. Just dragging me down. Will catch you guys on the other side on this one... Redskins 102, Vikings -3.

For me the main concerns about Trump is his stated plan to undo as much of Obama's executive actions as he can. If he repeals Obamacare and replaces it with something better I am fine with that. But repealing it and doing nothing is unacceptable. The other strong point is climate change, he has literately stated that global warming is a Chinese hoax. By going lax on the environmental regulations who knows how many years he will set back and you really have to consider the fact that scientists say we are almost at the point where continued inaction will make it impossible to reverse the decline. If he backs out of the Paris treaty and basically tells companies to go wild it could be digging too large of a hole for future generations to take care of the Earth. My final thing that I am semi-passionate about is immigration/lgbt/African American rights. We have started making progress towards equality for most and if Trump plans to repeal the marriage equality bill well then he's going to piss off a ton of people. And what do people do when they're pissed off over a lack of equal treatment? They riot. Immigration is a touchy subject but I support stronger border enforcement. I don't think a wall is the answer though especially considering tunnels are becoming a very common method to smuggle drugs and people over the border. The idea that Mexico will pay for a wall is ludicrous too. I don't really have a choice but to give him a shot and hope things work out for the better but I don't see it happening. Already seeing stories about him electing CEO's of companies to cabinet positions and I absolutely fail to see how private sector leaders would have any public interests at heart. We'll see though.

I'm not going to defend every statement Trump has ever made, there are too many bonehead ones. But I do like that instead of walking around in a PC cloud, he spoke openly about what he sees as the issues, and let the cards fall where they may. Speaking non-PC in this PC driven world was amazingly refreshing, even if at times it makes you understand how PC speak came into existence. If he continues the tone once in office then that may well do some long term damage, but whether it was the republican primaries, or the general election, he said and did what he thought it took to defeat his opponents. If he attacks the US's real problems with that same vigor and clear speech, I hope we will see real progress across the cultural spectrum and in the long run a far more united country As for the flipping the bird incident, it was an overt one on one act which at the time I obviously reacted to. (I don't really remember the details of the encounter - or my comments about it - but you bring it up often enough I clearly reacted strongly). |

Re: Election Day
Have you seen the video of the grade schoolers chanting build the wall yet? I wonder if they are old enough to differentiate between illegal and legal mexican children who have just as much right to be here as them and their immigrant great grandparents? Probably not. Hope there isnt one in that cafeteria?
The seed of hate has been planted. Im not saying their has not been prejudice before. Not at all. But Trump whether inadvertently or not, has given it a voice. It is scary. |
