Re: 3/18 @4pm NFL Free Agency & Trading Period
Who said it’s a competition? Maybe the new staff thinks he needs more time to develop and learn. Since win is a 16 year pro who put up 4600 yards last year as a mentor is a bad thing? It not like Rivers would be a long term answer. He’s a 1-2 year stop gap to let our very young and inexperienced QB of the future be prepared to dominate when his turn comes up.

3/18 @4pm NFL Free Agency & Trading Period
Rivers is not a good choice for us. Everyone who really don’t know much about this team thinks the Redskins are not sold on Haskins because of his overall record in his rookie year. They haven’t watched his film of his last few games where he really started to EXCEL and show he might be our franchise QB of the future.
The idea of sitting Haskins for a year or two behind a veteran QB is just as terrible as all the people who wanted him to sit out his rookie year OR LONGER. Haskins needs game time experience more than anything. He plays this upcoming year and shows growth and improvement and leadership OR we’re drafting for a QB in the 2021 draft. Sitting a QB is ok if you’re a playoff contender and you’re SURE the young QB is a franchise QB like Mahomes. Haskins needs to prove he’s our guy this season by playing all season and winning games and bringing our offense out of the cellar. Period. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I’ve always loved Rivers but his game fell off a bit last year. He’s lost some of his fastball, we can’t afford him anyway.

If we trade Trent we will have 72 mil in cap space.

Re: 3/18 @4pm NFL Free Agency & Trading Period
Rivers made 23 million last year and threw 20 interceptions.
On the plus side, he has started 16 games for the last 14 seasons. And as you pointed out the Redskins will have plenty of cap room. If he will take a short term contract and a 50% + cut in pay.... then maybe Last edited by Irrefutable; 03-08-2020 at 12:18 AM. |

$23 mill (maybe less) for a backup QB? We need to find out if Haskins is the future QB in THIS season. Not in two or three seasons after playing behind another old, OVER-PRICED QB on the downhill slope. We will have $72 mill in cap if we trade Trent. But we can buy some top rate, very good FA to fill a lot of the BIG holes on the team. Spending $10-20 mill on a QB, after we are ALREADY spending $20 mill on Alex Smith is just crazy. If Haskins had universally sucked his whole rookie season, this might be an option. But he started terribly, then steadily improved and finished very, very hot in his last two games. This gives a possible indication of his future. Making us wait another year or two to find out about whether Haskins is “the one” is just ridiculous. Give him a chance to prove himself or show he’s a draft bust THIS season. Then we can decide on overpaying some old guy or drafting a new QB. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Re: 3/18 @4pm NFL Free Agency & Trading Period
People keep saying Rivers to mentor Haskins. That's not what I think Rivera would be getting at. Would it shock anyone if they get Rivers and Tua? Rivers to mentor Tua. Haskins is traded. Think it's doubtful, but no one knows what Rivera thinks of Haskins currently other than the staff. I doubt even Snyder knows (he better not lol). Either way, we'll find out soon.
New coaches want their qb (their job depends on it), and that's why this situation is so intriguing with all the talent available and the cap space. We all want to know and thankfully we will soon. |

Re: 3/18 @4pm NFL Free Agency & Trading Period
If the rumors are true that Washington will pursue Rivers, that makes me think Rivera is not sold on Haskins. Rivers isn't going anywhere other than to start. Haskins needs to start also. Hence an issue. Again, cannot wait until FA/draft to see what we're really going to do this offseason.

No to Rivers...like MTK said, he looked bad last year. It’s a red flag Chargers let him walk.
An easy pass for me.

Definitely agree, also the Redskins aren't a slight QB upgrade away from being a contender. Also there is no guarantee Rivers would be an upgrade.

Re: 3/18 @4pm NFL Free Agency & Trading Period
It's not the total cap space that's a concern it's the % of the cap we'd have dedicated to the QB position. $21.4 for Alex, $3.3 for Dwayne, and probably another $20M or so for Rivers? That's ridiculous.

Re: 3/18 @4pm NFL Free Agency & Trading Period
Maybe they did discuss it, but Dan had nowhere to go after the 2019 disastrous season. He knew that he'd have to give Rivera full power (which he's already stated). Him and Turner have to make the decision. If Snyder is out of football operations, he's out. No in between. Only way this will work.
