Re: Haskins released
Since his injury in 2018 .... weve been waiting for the 2021 offseason to finally be able to cut him.
Alex Smith, nice guy, cute family, congratulations on making 71M for 17 or so starts ... but weve circled this 2021 date on our calendar 2 years ago. 2021 FA is the time to strike. Go all in. Teams in cap hell will have to make some serious cuts to players they otherwise wouldnt. Make 2021 to 2023 a potential window to be NFCE champs for 3 years. ------------- https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/cap/2021/ ^^ look at each teams cap position come 2021. 10 teams are negative and that is with only like 40 or so players counting against the cap. They need to ADD players to get to 53. Saints?? fucked. so fucked. they are negative 96M next year w 45 players on the books Eagles? negative 64M w 41 players Falcons? negative 24M w 31 players Packers and Rodgers? negative 19M w 37 players ** assumes a 175M cap, nfl is adding an extra game next year ------------------------ lets go! |

Re: Haskins released
All depends on what the QB plan is. If it's Alex, Kyle Allen and a rookie, no need to worry about Smith's #. If you're brining in a high priced free agent, yeah, his # becomes a concern.

Re: Haskins released
Alex Smith was never the primary choice at QB...nor was Haskins
Kyle Allen has always been the plan for this year. You bring him back Alex can stay if only he takes a big pay cut.

Re: Haskins released
A Taylor Heinicke/Kyle Allen showdown for starting QB role in 2021?
QB situation is very complex if we win Sunday and a lot easier if we lose. Those 9 or so spots change the whole equation. Sunday has impacts all over the place.

Re: Haskins released
I'm fine bringing them in as long as a rookie is drafted.

Re: Haskins released
I have a feeling that our starting QB next year will be a veteran FA acquisition. Especially if the team makes it to the playoffs.
Our first rounder can be better spent on a LT or MLB.

Re: Haskins released
I'm cool with that, Matt Ryan would be a great 2 year fit

Re: Haskins released
Matt Ryan is not a FA and if traded for would cost us high draft pics for a 2 to 3 year player . . . maybe if the price was right as i like Matt Ryan a lot . . . but not at too high a cost to handcuff us for too long. Does Julio Jones come with him?

Re: Haskins released
This guy is a sleeper and just might slip into the 1st round, he’s a junior not sophomore. From everything I’ve read he has the potential to be better than Trask and Jones. You can watch him Friday on the Peach Bowl. You judge.

I don't know if he would come in and play right away, but he is definitely an intriguing prospect that could be had either by trading back into the end of the 1st round à la M. Sweat, or perhaps even with their 2nd round pick. |

I would consider Fitzpatrick over Alex to come in and compete with Kyle Allen who is coming off injury along with a Heineken/mid round draftee. Fitzpatrick is better than Alex and would be cheaper than his current number.
