Draft discussions change significantly, as Heinicke has very little tread worn off the tires, and investments can be made at OL and LB that are needed. I love an underdog story, and as an ODU and WFT fan, am damned thrilled that the best QB in FCS could possibly lead my Redskins to a playoff win. This is fun stuff, and house money. I hope RIverboat Ron is ambitious in his game aspirations.
Interesting article and breakdown on him:

I sincerely doubt that, Mrs. Heinicke.

Which leads me to think he will only ever be a backup; his arm strength and issues with dealing with pressure/crowded pockets, means he's always at risk of interception in pressured situations. He didn't face those really against Carolina but he would definitely face them if playing Saturday. There's no indication he's overcome the problem with pressure, so right now I'd say Smith is the better 'risk' unless he's a total statue back there.

On the other hand, we have nothing to lose, so maybe if Smith can't go he might make the game entertaining, if not at least gives us a chance?

Re: WFT Wild Card Pre-Game Thread

Chico keys to the game:

1. Move Brady off his spot in the pocket and do not let him stand tall. Advance stats this year says he will make careless throws, let’s increase the chance.
2. The defense has to hold to field goals in the red zone. The way we win is if we hang around...the key to hanging around is 4th down stops and red zone defense.
3. With the offense struggling, a big play on defense and/or special teams would be huge. It’s tough to say we must score, but if an opportunity presents itself, make the play.
4. We need our receivers to catch the ball and help out our QB. Too many drops in the last month by JD, Logan Thomas, And the Sims brothers. They need to make the tough plays and block in the run game. Pass catchers need to come to play.
5. If we ever needed to run the ball, it’s this game. You need to help out your injured QB..run the ball as a unit. Turner needs to have a run game ready

10 players who helped Washington to the playoffs. What do they have in common? Kyle Smith acquired 7 of the 10 through the draft and FA.

Our OL has improved this year, you know why? When you have to practice and scrimmage against our defense they have to get better in order to survive. Let’s see how they do against Tampon Bay?

I'm sure that does make them better.

Re: WFT Wild Card Pre-Game Thread

It is all about Scott Turner calling plays that cater to our offense. He has a problem with that. Usually. If he calls the right plays based on our healthy personnel than we win. We need to score more than 20 points and we got a punchers chance.
Don’t get cute. Don’t try to do too much with what you got. Grind out yards and know when to take a shot. If he goes run run pass all day we are doomed.

Re: WFT Wild Card Pre-Game Thread

The Washington Football Team will have more answers in the morning, but there is a real chance QB Taylor Heinicke ends up starting vs the #Bucs, sources say. Alex Smith’s calf is still sore and hasn’t loosened up. Heinicke took the majority of snaps and is ready if needed.

Yeah, I'm not interested in coming out and trying to establish a running game. Quick slants, screens, double screens, RB wheel routes, RB in the flat, take some shots down the field when they present themselves... Pass to set up the run.

Bears beat them with a total of 35 yards rushing. No sense beating your head against the wall. "Matriculate" the ball down the field with the short passing game and use clock.

Re: WFT Wild Card Pre-Game Thread

If he is still sore, Alex should not be playing. I'm gonna be pissed if we waste half this game to find out what we already know, he is not healthy enough to play well. Especially against the type of defense the Bucs have.

The beer man is going from off the streets to starting a playoff game in approximately 1 month. I fucking love sports.

Yeah, I am a bit of a homer when it comes to Heinicke, and admit it. As a guy that saw the kid start and excel for four years at ODU, this is a helluva lot of fun.

However, care to make this discussion more interesting? If Heinicke plays a quarter or more, I'd wager that his QB rating is 80 or higher, and my wager, gentlemanly, of course, I'll change my screen name to your "Mrs. Heinicke" if he fails to produce. However, if I am correct and the kid plays well, what are you willing to wager, gentlemanly, of course?
