Re: Lions postgame
They need to play with some urgency. Pretend the football is $1 million and it is yours if you tackle the guy. Dotson said at the beginning of the season that he thinks about the football like it's money, and because he likes money, he goes to get it. And he plays like it. Heck, if that's what motivates, fine by me. Go get it. You literally are making millions to tackle people after all.
Now with the link: https://firstsportz.com/nfl-news-i-l...on-in-the-nfl/ Side note -- I don't recall the last time I was as excited about a WR tandem as McLaurin and Dotson. Explosive. And Samuel has looked good this season so far as well. Really happy where we are with that position.

Re: Lions postgame
It's hard to think that there is a better trio out there. And if/when B Rob comes back and we are able to establish a running game, this offense could be pretty potent. Just gotta get that D turned around - so frustrating.

I still wish they'd find some additional LB help -- Blake Martinez is out there. I see the Giants just signed Jaylon Smith. The dude has his issues, but I have to think he's got more to offer than Mayo, for example. Even incremental improvements in the middle and back end of the the defense would be welcome. As would better coaching/scheme. How we had a top 5 D two years ago is beyond me. Seems like an age.

Re: Lions postgame
I hope you're right. I will say this, whether it is personnel, scheme or a combo of the two, coming out flatfooted like they did last week just can't happen again. They looked lost. I know that happens occasionally even to good teams (e.g., Green Bay and SF in week 1), but for a team trying to turn things around, they need to be hungrier. Again, the Lions serve as a good model here. I think Siriani's Eagles may as well, unfortunately.

Re: Lions postgame
Keep in mind that "top 5" D from 2 years ago got fat on several bottom of the barrel backup QBs. When faced with some real competition they got shredded, like the TB playoff game.

They started slow last year too, but in the second half of the season they only allowed an average of about 16 points per game against T Brady, C Newton, D Carr, J Hurts, T Bridgewater, R Wilson, and D Jones... The team was not too good from week 14-16, but they had a lot of issues going on during that stretch. |

Re: Lions postgame
All fair points, Matty, but I think we can all agree that they were a moonshot better than what we've seen so far this season. Unless Jax and Det are actually good enough to make deep playoff runs (not sold on that yet), our D cannot be said to have held up all that well. Giving up 58 points in two games is not a good sign.

Re: Lions postgame
Honestly, they just have to eliminate the big plays and they'll be fine.
Detroit ran 61 plays for 425 yards. They gained 260 yards on 7 of those 61 plays. That means that they only gained 165 yards over the remaining 54 plays. |

Re: Lions postgame
Good gravy -- that's absurd. I had read that we've given up more 20+ and 40+ yard plays than anyone else this season, but those numbers are insane. So on 7 plays they averaged 37 years per play, and on the remaining 54 plays, they averaged 3 yards per play. Yikes.

Higher tech than I thought -- I was thinking smoke signals or passenger pigeons.
