Re: Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread

Still think a LT and G prospect are high priorities for the draft. Roullier is a good player, but I ain't counting on him for 17 games. So its likely Gates will start some games at C, and someone would need to play for him at LG. Or the rookie could possibly start and Gates could be used in the role of Wes Schweitzer. Swing G that can play C if needed. His contract isn't so prohibitive where he has to start to be of value (as compared to his contract).

Re: Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread

Is a starting OT likely still there at #16? Most projections suggest one of the top 3 CBs will be there. Unless we trade back of course. Signing these 2 and Johnson (depth) suggests to me they'll go after a starting CB as priority. I'd still take an OT at 16 if he's BPA, but I'd rather have a top CB right now. With St Juste as #3 we'd have probably the top DL and secondary in the division. Add another starting LB and we have a D with no holes.

2 more OL in draft and a TE; what's left? Could go BPA with 5 or 6 picks and end up with a good young roster.

Agree on Samuel, though I'd rather try and restructure him. He was pretty solid last year. But if Dotson moves up to #2, 10M is a lot for a #3/gadget WR.

Broderick Jones, Paris Johnson, Peter Skoronski. Those are the three guys. Could definitely be there at 16.

@TomPelissero
The #Commanders are signing former #Seahawks LB Cody Barton to a one-year, fully guaranteed deal, per source.

No terms announced yet but this signing may signal the end of Cole Holcomb in Washington.

Some good stats from Standig:

@BenStandig
Barton, 26, had 136 tackles last season with the Seahawks while playing in all 17 games (11 starts). Only started 4 games over first 3 seasons.

Seems like it. Keim reported that the team and Holcomb weren't even close in the contract negotiation. I think the ideal scenario is Holcomb resigns with us after he tests the market and realize that he wouldn't get as much as he hoped. Barton alone is not enough, we will need Holcomb or other LB.

Getting some LB help now, nice!

Seems like we def came out aggressive with a plan to go after under the radar guys at areas of need. We didn’t need to be big spenders but needed to fill out the roster

Being able to pick up the CB too on waivers helps fill out that room with Danny Johnson now coming back as well

Great signing, better than Holcomb

2019 3rd round pick, seems like he's been healthy, good signing IMO, this squad still depth AND improvement IMO, but no need to overspend here, the OL needs fixing/overhaul.

Dantzler seems like a potential sleeper solid signing, ankle injuries aren't usually of the lingering kind, so he should be back 100 %.

Great day of signings, nothing extravagant, just solid players. Cody Barton is an animal, let's see if Dantzler rebounds to expectations.

For the first time in a long time, I actually feel like we can go into the draft without a glaring hole on the roster. Yes QB is an issue, but after today’s approach…we plugged the needs. We have options

Now let’s hit the draft get best player available

I agree. It may or may not be a glaring weakness at qb. Glaring weaknesses right now are mainly depth. ILB, oline still. I am not a fan of Leno. Kicker. If Howell pans out and Chase rebounds we could be pretty pretty pretty good.

I would draft a LT and replace Leno who is on the hook for $9.25mil draft an ILB, G and CB. Fans are going to love Barton, he’s a tackling machine.
