However, we make it through the wild card rounds to the Superbowl, at which point we are automatically given the #31 or 32 pick regardless of record. If the record portion of the trade agreement has already been triggered, could we possibly end up with a better draft pick?

Now Im sure they thought of this during negotiations, but hey, always gotta look for the loopholes!
Since the playoffs do factor in to determining draft order, I would think 'record' would include the playoffs.

I'm just glad we have a NEW TJ to talk about. One that might actually do something.

I read somewhere this morning that we gave up a 2nd AND a 3rd round pick for Duckett. I think we could've used those picks better than getting a goal-line back WHICH WE ALREADY HAVE in Sellars.

Where did you read that? I haven't seen anything about a 2nd rounder. A 2nd and a 3rd rounder would make no sense based on trade value charts.

The trade will be officially announced today, until then this seems to be the most logical details about the trade.

Quote:
Based on the teams' finish this season, the Broncos, at best, could end up with the Redskins' first- and third-round picks in the 2007 draft if the Redskins finish with a worse record than the Broncos.

In that scenario, the Broncos and Redskins would flip-flop first-round picks, with Denver moving up in the opening round and the Redskins moving down. The Broncos would then get the Redskins' third-round pick as well.

If the Redskins finish with a better record than the Broncos, Denver gets he Redskins' third- and fourth-round picks in April.

Some article on Yahoo. I can't find it again. Probably NOT a reliable source but I did read it.

An article on ESPN mentioned a formula where we'd give up 3rd and 4th to Denver at worst.

The Broncos seem to get ALL of our draft picks.

I think Saunders really does like Betts.

But the main concern about Betts has always been his injury problems, and surprise, surprise he's nursing a sore hammy right now.

With Portis banged up, I think the staff really had to take a long, hard look at the RB situation. I'm sure they played a bit of what if. What if Portis can't hold up? What if he wears down again at the end of the season like last year? What if Portis goes down and Betts is also hurt? Then what? Rock Cartwright? Please.

I don't think we gave up anything more than a 3rd round pick. I have yet to see anywhere or hear anything other than a 3rd round pick. Would Gibbs and the guys really give a 1st round pick for TJ? I don't think they would put that kind of value on a guy who only gained 380 yards last year. Redskins.com, ESPN, and NFL netword all have it as a 3rd round pick. Thats it... wouldn't they say a third round pick and a conditional pick to be named later if it were anything other than a 3rd rounder?

That's all it was, a third round. All this rubbish about us giving up a first rounder, two picks here and there...no way. It was a third as you said.

matty, you almost make it sound like this was a pannicked move by the redskins.

I think we would have gone after him regardless of portis's injury status.we needed a good goaline back and as someone pointed out earlier with those goalline stats, he is one of the best.

Panic move?

Not at all.

If Betts was 100% right now I'm not sure they make this move, and if Portis was healthy I really don't think they would have made it.

I don't think it has anything to do with panic. Panic to me indicates a move made out of desperation without much thought behind it. I think this was a well calculated move.

Just think everyone, when we are down on the goalline this year we will have two of the biggest backs in the NFL to pound it in. Ducket behind Sellers!! I don't think we will be throwing the ball on the 2 yard line much this year. Just pound that rock!!

not just that, late in the game when the defense has their hands on their hips, and sucking wind after chasing portis for 3 quarters, then they have big TJ to deal with. this is gonna be fun to watch.

Good Point, didn't think about that. Also watching the TJ highlight video he could bust a 3rd and short for a 20 yd. gain. I think we made a great trade here. Just another piece of the Superbowl puzzle. Now if we can figure out some corner depth.

Duckett behind Sellars DOES sound awesome.

I just hope we didn't give up TOO much for it.

For Portis fantasy owners like me, don't worry....CP will still get plenty of LONG TD runs while Duckett is waiting for a goal-line situation to come in for. Portis can put the ball over the goal line from ANYWHERE on the field.

It makes me replay his first carry as a Redskin against TB in my head again.

To all of those screaming the sky is falling as a result of this trade, you need to go get laid or something because you are clearly wound way too tight.

We got great value for NEXT YEAR's #3 pick. NEWSFLASH: That pick will not be on the field THIS YEAR. There is a window of opportunity THIS YEAR. What we got in return was someone who can be a real goal line back -- something that we have been missing (and has cost us games).

Duckett does ease the stress of when CP will be back, but here is the part I'm really looking forward to:

Seeing what happens when Al Saunder's puts CP & TJ in the backfield at the same time. The way AS uses the FB position, this would create some amazing opportunities for mismatches that will result in points.
