Re: (updated title): Make Your Day One Redskins Draft Selections (Rounds 1-2)

that would suck for henne. i do believe he probably has a better shot as an NFL starter than the other QBs this year, but not if he's a falcon.

if you're team isn't in place (like the steelers or pats were) a rookie QB probably isn't going to be able to save you. especially if you have no patience.

manning had a horrible season as a rookie, but he didn't have 4 coaching changes like these 4-12 teams drafting QBs tend to have, and the stability made it easy to build up around him.

if you're not ready for a rookie QB, or committed to building around him with patience, there's nearly a 100% chance of failure, and it happens all the time :/.

with us, campbell had a line, a playoff capable team (good D, at least 1 WR, RB, FB, TE) so all he has to do is play his part well and not worry about the rest... plus he seems to deal with pressure pretty well anyways.

1.Quentin Groves DE
2.Branden Albert/Roy Schuening OG

*However if we haven't drafted a receiver in FA by the Draft we should draft either Limas Sweed or James Hardy #1 or #2.

Im not sure, but I think, to have a comprehensive scouting of the players like most NFL teams, they interview everyone.

Q Groves would be my pick only if DRC wasn't there for us

I think it is a big myth that you need shutdown corners at both slots. You only need shutdown cornerbacks if you don't have a consistent pass rush from your defensive line.

Look at what the Giants did to the Patriots with an aging Sam Madison (33 years old) and Aaron Ross (not exactly a household name) slotted at cornerback.

I would also say that those who are lobbying hard for a "big wide receiver" are also off the mark. I think we need one but the top of the draft is when we need to find our horses - those guys up front that are going to just create havok on both sides of the ball.
It wasn't that they didnt have good corners because they did, but it was an overal defensive team effort. D-line played a HUGE part in it, but we do need shut down corners for the reason u just mentioned - we don't get a good, consistent rush to the QB.

Get a top-flight CD in DRC if he falls, and then we can address D-line later. The top rated talent at DL wont be available to us lat #21, but a top-flight corner in DRC should be.

Wow, check this out. http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft...odd&id=3270327 (Don't worry about the Insider label, this time around ESPN is giving this story away for free)

21. Washington Redskins -- Devin Thomas, WR, Michigan State
Record: 9-7 | Needs: WR, S, DE, OT, CB
Previous mock selection: Phillip Merling, DE, Clemson
The Redskins' top priority is adding a playmaking receiver to the roster. There projects to be a run of wide receivers in the bottom half of the first round, so the Redskins should get involved here before they get shut out. Thomas might not have the ideal size Washington is looking for, but he's a well-built wide out with strong hands and excellent run-after-catch ability.

I don't think any WR is worth being selected in the first round

I don't know why, but I kind of want them to draft him with that pick now (Then again I can be kind of flakey). So long as they can get a guy like your BOY Chilo Rachel in the 2nd and Dre Moore or Johnny Dingle in the 3rd. Maybe make a move to make Robertson the latest JetSkin with a late second day pick.

Also, am I the only one that wants Jerry Jones to draft Darren McFadden? Facing Reggie Bush, I mean McFadden twice a year would be a dream in my opinon.

rachel won't be there by our second pick. i'd still prefer T laws there if he's available.

mcfadden isn't a complete running back, but he'll transition a little better to the nfl, i believe.

Well at this point I'm convinced, weather I like it or not, the 21st pick will probably be Devin Thomas. The pick has Synder written all over it and with the FA WR market drying up at the current rate we'll probably end up coming out of Free Agency without signing a guy that will make Cerrato say "Ok we're set."

As far as Rachel not being there. Well I'm convinced that with the way the draft unfolds year after year, someone is going to fall. Maybe it'll be Shcueling, Chilo, Eric Young, Carl Nicks. One or two of those guys will be available in the second round when we pick. I mean last year I could have never predicted that one of the ten best players, in my opinion, Ryan Kalil, would fall to the bottom of the second round.

However right now while looking at a few profiles I think that the Redskins could be targeting Mike McGlynn in the 3rd round. Guy is solid at G and has experience playing every position on the line.

Laws looks good, but I would like to risk him falling to the third round before taking him. Of course at this rate he's looking like a mid 2nd round pick.

Right now I see the Redskins draft going as follows. This is more what I think the Redskins will do as opposed to what I want, however I approve of the following picks.

1st - Devin Thomas - WR - MSU
2nd - Tracey Porter - CB - Indiana
3rd - Mike McGlynn - G - Pitt
5th- Trade for DeWayne Robertson (I'm sticking to my guns on this one)
6th - Dennis Dixon - QB - Oregon
7th - Alvin Bowen - OLB - Iowa State

Other possible 7th Round Picks
Dennis Keyes - FS - UCLA

Re: (updated title): Make Your Day One Redskins Draft Selections (Rounds 1-2)

I would select Branden Albert.

He would actually fill 2 major needs for the Skins. First he could come in right away and start at Guard over Pete Kendell and that would allow Kendell to be the number 1 back-up at both guard and center. This has been something that I have heard brought up by the front office as being one of our biggest needs multiple times. I also fill that Albert is a player who will eventually find himself being moved out to tackle before his career is over. This is the type of versatility that the skins were missing last year.

In the 2nd round I would take Trevor Laws (if he's available). He's a lot like Albert’s in that he can play 2 different positions DE and DT. I think the skins really value this kind of versatility.

dewayne is a bust and he'd want a contract that'd be worth more than what his ability merits (with picks on top). i'd be a bit miffed if that's the plan.

Why are we taking three WR's? What kind of GM are you? Your draft class consist of three wideouts, a slacker, a system QB, and some O-Lineman that will end up writing the latest "Ethan Albright Madden letter."

God, one day we're going to have no O-Line and the rest of you are going to be begging the team to grab O-Lineman left and right. Of course hopefully that'll happen when I'm long gone and burried 6 feet under.

You on the other hand would make an awesome GM.

Dewayne Robertson is the greatest DT of all time. I won't let you say otherwise.

In all seriousness I agree with the experts in that a one-gap 3 technique shouldn't be playing NT. If he got a chance here I think he could produce a 4 or 5 sack season. C. Griffin would also have a better chance to stay healhty but then again there are a few DT's available in the second round that put up a few sacks from the what I presume to be the 3 technique so we'll see how it goes.

Ironically I've started to veer less and less from the idea of adding Robertson via trade. Of course that mock draft you're referring to is what I would forsee the Redskins doing based on what Vinny Cerato has said and whos avaialbe.

if you think dewayne robertson was the greatest DT of all time, all you have to do is go back and and see the jets game, he got pushed around like a wimp ad didnt do anything about it and also, you can never have enough WRs
