Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
If Shanahan is indeed named to be the next coach here I'm interested in seeing who's going to take credit for the hire, Snyder or Allen. Snyder says Allen has the authority let's see if it's actually his call.

Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
by all reports, the only reason allen got the job is because Shanahan wanted him. so things will get REALLY interesting if Shanahan goes to Dallass.

Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
At this point, there is no doubt Mike Shanahan will be our next coach. The real questions will come in the offseason..namely questions about our current players. Does Campbell stay or go? Clinton Portis? Santana Moss? Who does Shanahan bring in for the defense or does he keep GB and company in place? At least something Snyder is doing right this time is getting a GM/VP that has been successful in the NFL and a coach (hopefully if true) likewise.
I still think Jim Zorn is going to be a successful coach in this league but this was not the right avenue (obviously) for him to take in order to get a head coaching job.

Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
Shanahan prefers Dallas and is waiting to see what happens there before signing here. It is by no means a done deal.

Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
the season isn't over yet. this is so freakin stupid. if i were zorn i would go into snyders office and tell him to fuck off. it's so wrong to shit on your coach like snyder is doing. i don't know why any coach, especially one with shanahan's credentials would come and work here.

Build a good O-line, design a good scheme that makes holes and pick any decent running back; they will do good. Don't pay them crazy money, don't be afraid to bench one even if he's running well and don't be afraid to trade one for a commodity that is ACTUALLY extremely rare and valuable (a shut down corner) I think with a few exceptions (such as a Sanders, a Bo Jackson, a Sweetness, a Jim Brown) and Portis isn't one of those, that good running backs grow on trees... Don't agree? look as Mendenhall and Parker before him (They are sitting Parker now so he knows why he wont get a huge contract; and why should he if a rookie can run as well?)... Look at Shanahan post Portis (there's enough grist for the mill just with Shanahan for the last few years)... Now look at Knowshon Moreano; Corell Buckhalter looks just as good in the same system... They often split carries. In fact any number of teams that have had injuries or running back committees... Jamal Lewis replaced by Harrison and then Jennings for the Browns in the last game, all ran well... Glen Coffee ran just as well as Gore when he was injured in San Fran... Hell Portis then Betts then Cartwright, then Ganther ... I could go on. Good Running backs grow on trees, and shouldn't be overpaid for. They definitely shouldn't be skipping practices, skipping pre-season and otherwise being exempt from the rules the rest of the team has to follow due to a ridiculous guaranteed contract and buddy buddy status with the owner... |

Zorn went 6-2 and then went 2-6 to end up 8-8. He got worse the second half of the year. Most likely due to injuries. If so one would think come this season with everyone healthy he starts out great but we didn't. He got worse. It took Sherm Lewis to come in and fix what Zorn could not over a 16 game span. I took Sherm Lewis 3 games to get the Skins scoring over 30 points. If Zorn stays he needs to go back to what he does best....coach QB's. Will he take a demotion? I'm betting not. I would love for him to stay, take the demotion, and keep his pay he has now since we will be paying him anyway unless he resigns. Speaking of because he is still under contract for one more year could DS tell Zorn he is demoting him to QB coach? I would imagine Zorn would say no way and resign but if he didn't we would have a good QB coach. I personally think Holmgren is going to take the Browns job and probably take Zorn with him in some type of capacity to help train him for he future. Just my personal feeling. |

BUT, if Shanahan is willing to come on now then a proven coach is always better than an unproven one. However, as Zorn has proven to be a true man working through a very hard situation - I would suggest that Zorn stay on as offensive coordinator/QB coach with shanahan as head coach and play caller. I think Zorn is a proven QB coach and ready for the step as offensive coordinator - which is a promotion. Zorn only got the job because the real coaches available refused to work with Vinny. Keeping Zorn and Campell and the Z-man West coast in place and having Shanahan come in and add his wrinkles would be a good move. My question is - one: can Shanahan win without Elway and 2: all those 4th quarter comebacks - you know the air is thinner in mile high so teams not accustomed to the low oxygen got tired faster. Shanahan won't have that in DC. I also wonder what happens to portis? he has a history with Shanahan... |

Honestly You can't take those 2 SB's away from Shanny just bcuz Elway.. He built a great team around Elway.. Remember John never won a SB until Shanahan was there.. As far as CP... He would be gone regardless, I doubt he wants to play in DC anymore.. I will be very interested in JC, If I were a betting man I would say Shanny will bring in another QB, Via the Draft. If so we still need a veteran QB and I think JC is Solid.. Also if I remember right, he had some teams that ran a 3-4 Defense... Alot of questions to be answered.

Maybe but not necessarily true, look at when Wade took over Dallas, or when Turner took over SD..

Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
Those of you that think that Zorn should stay or will be a good coach elsewhere are morons. Do any of you remember what the offense was like when he was calling plays?
And I don't understand at all why anyone would not want Shanahan. Who do you want then? Snyder finally makes some smart decisions and people still bitch? I think you all are just looking for something to be pissed about. I like Zorn and feel bad for how his situation has been handled, but he will never be a good head coach and probably will never get the opportunity again after the shitfest in DC. |

Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
Honestly even though I don't entirely think this could happen, it's still interesting. What if Shanny keeps Portis next year knowing the history those two had for the first two seasons of Portis' career? Any chance Shanny decides to keep Portis, get a nice backup RB, and then focus on other areas?
