CJ28 Doesn't like COPS. Says "It's hard being young, black and rich"

NFL Star Chris Johnson -- Why Are The Cops Here? | TMZ.com

I think Chris was right about the "suspicion" of drugs being moved in and out of his condo, but sometimes athletes really need to stop this "their out to get me crap"

Johnson also tweeted "I should have gave them some doughnuts"

I would be pissed too. People (likely black males) cant come and go from your house without the neighbors and the police thinking something illegal is going down?

I agree with that which is a joke, again it's 2011.

really? so if some one moved down the street from you and you didn't know who they were but you saw a lot of people coming and going very frequently it wouldn't arrise any suspision in you?

it's not like the cops harrased him, they were just following a tip from what it sounds like, all they were doing is their job, investigating suspicious activity. when cops go out of their way to harass people it's one thing, but when something fishy is going on is it that bad of a thing they show up? there was nothing illegal going on so they left, i see no problem.

Okay ill say that the neighbors have a right to think or feel however they want, and if all they told the cops as the TMZ artical indicates is that a bunch high end cars were enter and leavig CJ's property the cops should have said so what. How should that be worthy of being suspicous to the police station?

The best thing my dad ever tought me: If police come to your door and you didnt call them dont answear. CJ should have done the same that day.

The saying about police work is that 95% of the time it's mind numbing and monotonous while the other 5% of the time it's life threatening terror. That means that 95% of the time police officers have nothing to do but drive around and look for anything that resembles a crime in progress. So even when a tip as weak as the CJ28 tip comes in sometimes they'll follow it just to have something to do.

if and tmz in the same sentence doesn't really sound realiable to me. all i'm saying is it just sounds like the cops were doing their job in this instance responding to a call recieved from a suspicious neighbor. is the neighbor right or wrong? there is your discussion, but as for the cops, sounds like they were just doing what they get paid to do

and as far as it being hard to be young, black and rich. i'd like to see cj spend a few days being young, white, broke, married, and starting a new bussiness. just get back to your mtv film crew and running for 2000 yards a year. i'd be willing to bet with a new cba comes all sorts of new limitations of what these guys put out through their twitter accounts

If I'm speaking honestly, it depends on the neighborhood. I think it has nothing to do with race.

If I'm in a neighborhood with decent household income and I see dudes coming and going from a house all the time, I'm likely to think it's a guy and his buddies who love to play poker. White, black, or whatever.

But if I'm in a neighborhood whose median household income is $20K - 30K, and there are lots of men coming and going from the house all the time, yes I am likely to be suspicious (and guess what, I'm likely to be right).

Frankly, yes.

Crime happens in lower income areas because the people don't make much money. If I'm making $150,000 a year there's a lot more to lose if I'm caught selling drugs. There's also less to gain; the person making $150,000 doesn't need drug money to make ends meet.

The people who turn to selling drugs are often lower-income and often uneducated.

There will always be exceptions, but if we're talking about the most accurate way to profile somebody, it's based on income levels, not race or gender.

I think what he's saying is poor people are more likely than rich people to SELL drugs.

No, old money use prescriptions and become wineo's. New money uses street drugs

Not do drugs. Sell drugs.

Dealers generally would not be well off if not for the drug money.

Completely agree. While there is a racial component to this, I don't think we should be quick to racialize (I know, not a word) everything.

Truth is, we all have prejudices. At times we lean toward them more or less depending on our surroundings and the information we've gathered over the years. I'm not justifying the actions of either party in this situation, but it is what it is.

I've just come to learn that not all things that appear to be racist is racism, sometimes it's just plain old everyday ignorance and you just have to leave it there and keep it moving.

That said, I think black athletes do live under more of a public microscope related to their comings and goings. Why is that? I think that's another can of worms all by itself.
