Washington:
Rebels
Pelicans (kidding, NBA name)
Nationals (first time 2 teams in the same city have the same name)
Thunder (ahh that would work too)
Warhawks
Tomahawks
Geronimos
Indians
Rangers

yeah warriors works best

The answer really is simple, the Washington Sentinels. Life imitating the movies is always good.

If I missed it I apologize but why not "Braves" and keep the logo?

That'd be cool since i'm an Atlanta Braves fan. I still contend that while I don't think it will happen, if it does, they will use my idea and call the team Washington Pigskins.

How about we just keep the name and tell the uptight PC folks out there to buzz off?

Agreed . . . and this:

growing up a Redskin fan in Northern Michigan was not easy. All we got to see on TV was either the Packers or the Lions . . . there was no Direct TV . . . there only thing you could do was the large satellite dish and they were VERY expensive . . . but i lived right down the road from the Ojibwa Indian Community and had quite a few friends there . . . they flew the Redskins flag all football season long and had a community hall with a satellite dish just so they could watch the Redskin games . . . it was a celebration every week . . . and what they told me was the term Redskin meant to them was "Great Warrior" . . . the whole community there embraced the name and the team . . .

Source (USA Today):

Quote:
A poll of American Indians found that an overwhelming majority of them are not bothered by the name of the Washington Redskins.
and while that poll is a bit older, there are tons of polls like this . . . the VAST MAJORITY of Native Americans DO NOT find the name offensive.

Re: Smithsonian Museum - yet another thread on team name

I have a great deal of empathy for the plight of Native Americans but have also been a fan of the Redskins for almost 50 years. I personally have never thought of the Redskins name as offensive but then thought maybe I am being insensitive.

I asked a 20 plus year friend of mine who is 1/2 Seminole and 1/2 Lakota if he or members of his family who live on the Seminole reservation in Hollywood Florida find the name Redskins, Seminoles, Braves or Indians to be offensive. He said HELL NO. That's good enough for me.

It would be ironic if all sports teams that offend those certain whiners changed their names and as the years pass that they'll complain why no teams honor Native Americans.

Re: Smithsonian Museum - yet another thread on team name

The name change topic has always angered me. I have grown up proud to be a Redskin. It represents a honor and stregnth to me. If we were forced to change the name I propose at least one season as the Washington Reds - Kins. The sons and daughters of Republicans. With a middle finger as our logo.

Re: Smithsonian Museum - yet another thread on team name

So, out of all of the "Native Americans" who were polled at this summit, how many were full-blooded Native Americans, and how much of a percentage who voted actually said the name was not offensive.

I checked it out some live and only one or two of the people were indians. It looked like the other 95 to 99% were black or white.

Yeah. I was posting on the Washington Post site in the comments section, and this supposedly "Redskins fan" was arguing with me about the name change. I told him about the Indians who were polled on the reservations, and he said "100% of the indians who attended the summit said it was offensive, so that trumps your poll" or something to that effect. I basically asked him how many were "full blooded" and never got a response back. I think it's so silly how people jump on the bandwagon of the easily offended when they don't even know why they are offended.

I hope you pointed out that the symposium was a biased event toward changing the name.
