Re: Ravens release Ray Rice

I'll keep beating this dead horse, because I'm amazed at the public's stupidity. Goodell works for the owners, such as Steve Bisciotti who owns the Ravens. While Goodell f*cked up the whole Rice situation and should suffer the consequences, it was Bisciotti and the Ravens organization who did all the cover up and sugarcoated the whole thing. Yet no one is calling for Newsome to resign or Bisciotti to sell the team.

un-f*cking-belivable
It is constantly amazing to me the ease with which people justify violent reactions.

- If a victim of domestic abuse "ain't trippin," maybe its b/c that's a pattern for abuse victims. But, hey, we wouldn't want to educate ourselves on the larger issues ... that might mean examining how you yourself behave. Also, one thing I realized this morning is, for all the "it was a momentary lapse," "he does so much good," etc. I have never heard Ms. Rice say "HE HAS NEVER LAID HANDS ON ME BEFORE." If she has said this, please someone tell me. To me, that would be pretty critical in any evaluation of the situation. Her failure to say it seems to me to be indicative that, while this may be the first time he knocked her out, it isn't the first time he has smacked her around.

- Was she a threat in any way to harm him? Did Ray Rice, uber-athlete, really have no choice but to cold cock her? Couldn't avoid or restrain without excessive violence? So a 10 year old kid comes up to him and kicks him in the shin and spits on him, knock the little bastard out! Christ almighty.

I say it again, the veneer of civilization is very thin in much of our society.

NFL Network will be hosting a three hour discussion and seminar on domestic violence this evening. The seminar will be interrupted periodically with updates from a football game being played in Baltimore at the same time.

No doubt, plenty of blame to go around. Goodell is just the easy target.

I'm tired of this already. I can't stand Goodell and he may be lying, but I really don't care. He's not my dad or anything. People get so bent out of shape over things that really aren't any of their business. Rice got away with hitting his wife and he got what he deserved football wise. The law messed up, so did the NFL, they'll get it right if there's a next time. But this media onslaught is ridiculous.

Re: Ravens release Ray Rice

Well, it's getting out of hand b/c (1) of the visceral response to the tape by everyone; (2) the "WTF" factor - how could this ever have been just a two game suspension; (3) Domestic abuse and violence against women is a hot button topic recently; (4) the appearance of a cover-up.

Frankly, I think, but for No. 4, this would begin to slowly die down. As someone said earlier, if it looks like your covering something up, all you do is heighten scrutiny (rightfully so in my opinion). Goodell & the Ravens screwed the pooch on this one initially and now their stories as to why they did so are looking like a pack of lies. Not good for moving on from the story.

LOL. Seriously, it's way out of hand. The media is in a frenzy over this.

Using paul george logic, Goodell aint trippin, but public is trippin equals perpetual trippin.

You are? You only need to look at our elected officials to show you how stupid the majority of the public really are.

This is fitting since today is 9/11 and goes along with the theme here.

Keith Olbermann actually called for everybody to be fired (including Ozzie) so I'll give him credit for that much.

Re: Ravens release Ray Rice

People want to say something about Jerry Richardson and the Panthers in regards to Greg Hardy. I don't think you'll see too many owners break down during a speech like Jerry did here. You can tell it bothers him, which is definitely something Goodell (and Bisciotti) are lacking.

Greg Hardy excused from Carolina Panthers practice to meet with lawyer - ESPN

The Panthers (and the NFL) are right to allow the legal system to play about before coming down on Hardy. There isn't any video in this situation that shows us the facts or events. Due process should be allowed to happen and then punish the person if convicted. It needs to be done because there are a lot of false allegations put on men by women, and there are a lot that are legit. Let the legal system do its thing and then act.

I think Watergate taught everyone that the cover up is worse than the crime.
