Re: Giants postgame

One thing I thought I had seen live and can confirm with the All 22 is they played a bit of 5-1-5 personnel.
I actually thought JDR tried some different things to bring pressure, Lb and DB blitzes, 5 man front... execution wasn't there.

Re: Giants postgame

Compiling good plays from our DL, there are actually quite a lot.
In the meanwhile, here is a random example of how bad LB play can make your DBs look bad.
You watch this live and go "uh Fuller is playing too soft!". But he has the deep, it's a matter of our LBs, here Holcomb, not taking enough depth, and opening the window for the throw. From the endzone view you see it's a matter of a few inches, so a few yards up the field and it's a way more difficult throw to make.

Re: Giants postgame

One thing with WJ3, and it is sonething that drives me mad. Ron has spoken frequently over the offseason about teaching WJ3 to play the position differently. It drives me nuts when a team pays a top free agent and then starts changing their technique, the very technique that got them noticed and paid in the first place. If you are going to sign a big name free agent, let him play in a way that made you give him all that money. If his style doesn't fit your scheme don't sign him. When Ron started saying this it really started to make me worry about WJ3.

One other thing, as Bostic is clearly the main culprit in coverage breakdowns, the other players have to be aware of this too, after all they study the film more than we do (I hope). I wonder whether sometimes Holcomb and co are keeping one eye on Bostics zone vecause they know he needs help and as a result not fully focusing on their assignment. On the busted coverage against the Giants Landon Collins came up to cover the TE when he should have been taking Slayton deep from WJ3, itself a questionable play call given Collins limitations.

Re: Giants postgame

Here's a compilation I made of good plays by this DL. Too long to upload in gifs. Yes we need them to produce more, but they still made quite a lot of plays.
There's only so much they can do if guys are running wide open behind them...
Included a couple of example of good pressure but pass still completed because of bad coverage and/or really good throw.

Re: Giants postgame

Here's the dropped TD, definitely looks like Landon Collins had the deep center... but WJ3 still has the deep right so I don't understand why he slowed down.

How is this happening? This scheme isn’t new.

It looks to me like poor communication, but if it happens again, that's on JDR. It looks like C2 the way WJ3 reacts, but if so why Collins came short is beyond me. If it's 2 man under, then both Collins and WJ3 screwed up. It's more likely to be Robber, but then WJ3 should be staying with the deep receiver and Collins shouldn't come up. Hence why I think its communication; one (both?) of them got the play wrong or they didn't communicate with each other to confirm the coverage responsibilities.

Good take. I thought it could simply be cover 3, with Landon effin up by wanting to make a play on the in route. Still would see no reason for WJ3 to slow down... Has anything been asked to/said by Ron and/or JDR on this one ?

Nothing I've seen. I don't think it was C3, WJ3 would have kept dropping while the S's rotated (Fuller? on the right of the D stayed short with his man and the slot/LB coverage was definitely man). The more I look at it the more I think this is on both Collins and WJ3. Everyone else seemed to stick to their assignments.
