Re: The Official Defense Has Major Issues/Fire Jim Haslett Thread
I cant believe we lost to the RAMS.
OMG, that is pitiful. so much for the "playoff run" here in DC. that was downright ugly, and there are ABSOLUTELY no positives to come out of that game. We stink. |

Re: The Official Defense Has Major Issues/Fire Jim Haslett Thread
I just expect less from the offense cause we've only got one legit NFL wr. These guys that they brought in were on the street for a reason. Galloway, Armstrong and Williams would not make 90% of the teams in the league. Thomas and Davis need to be on the field all the time. Not journeymen WR's.

We might still improve on offense yet, but three games into Zorn 2.0 last season, we were ahead of where we were now. We know how that ended. If we beat Philly and go 2-0 in the division to start, no one remembers this game. We'll be in first place in the NFC East no matter what Dallas and New York do.

Haslett's zone coverages are so easy a rookie QB can pick it apart. Only in Washington would we let Gwilliams leave, promote blache, hire zorn and get back on track only to hire Haslett who has a pitiful track record and accomplished squat. IDK what the answer is, only know there are numerous problems and now we are losing games when the division is still up for grabs. Disgraced today. |

Re: The Official Defense Has Major Issues/Fire Jim Haslett Thread
There is always a conception/misconception of how long it takes a team to adjust to a new scheme. The Redskins are currently undergoing changes on both sides of the ball, including a total overhaul on defense. The Redskins have also played 3 mediocre games thus far, leading to a 1-2 record that could quite easily be 0-3, as it could quite easily be 2-1 (they were never in yesterday's game, even with a 14-13 halftime score). Time will only tell whether the current players will adjust quickly and start playing solid football, or whether the players this year are playing for their spots on next year's team.
There is also a tone on this team that makes them feel like they don't have to earn things, that they'll be handed the silver spoon on the golden platter week in and week out. Haynesworth's quote, while doesn't sum over the overall team's take, could represent more than one player's thoughts, "I mean, you've got to look at their record and you've got to look at the team, and you think they've got a young quarterback and their line's been giving up a lot of sacks. And you might not think you're letting 'em off the hook or Hey, it's just the Rams, but it's got to be in your mind. Because you look at their record, you look at the young quarterback, look at how the line played before, giving up nine sacks before this game, and things like that. So it's little keys that probably make you think that way." The team certainly has that connotation about them that they'll just win and not have to earn it. I think the growing pains of the 3-4 are clearly evident, and it'll help Shanny and Haslett plan for next year's roster to see who can hack it (Orakpo, Landry, Rocky, Fletcher) and who can't (Hall, Carter, Haynesworth). It'll be nice if the team can get their shit together and play solid football...however, it wouldn't surprise me if they coast through the season like they have in years past.

Re: The Official Defense Has Major Issues/Fire Jim Haslett Thread
I am not surprised by the problems we are having on defense.
I have been posting all summer when I was disappointed to find out we hired Hasslett and were switching to the 3-4 full time, I knew this would happen and we would be vulnerable to the run. So this is not a shocker. I do think in time Hasslett wil turn it around. One of the problem is every year with our fans and some on this sight, we experience some success in preseason and immediately we start hearing the ovelyr optimistic talk of playoffs and how we are back to being a winning team. The reality is we are better (4-12) but not as far removed as some would think from what we were last year. Our offensive line and defensive secondary (safety play) is greatly improved. But we are much weaker in our front seven, which is the foundation of any defense and what separates a winning teams from a losing teams. Before we screaming for people to get fired we need give them a chance to right the ship. The only part that is little frustrating is they took a team strength, run stopping and some how made it a weakness. That is a bitter pill to swallow. |

Re: The Official Defense Has Major Issues/Fire Jim Haslett Thread
Quick reality interjection: Sam Bradford completed 62% of his passes for 6.35 yards per attempt yesterday.
Last year, Matt Stafford completed 58% of his passes for 6.70 yards per attempt last year against us. Rams backs rushed for 133 yards on 37 carries in this game, good for 3.6 YPC. Last year, Lions backs rushed 154 yards on 36 carries, good for 4.3 YPC This year, we forced two turnovers, and made one QB sack vs. the Rams. Last year, we forced no turnovers, and made two sacks vs. the Lions. Our defense is ahead of where it was at this point last year. Carry on.

He needs to figure out a scheme to better fit our players, but the players and this may have lost us the game, need to learn how to tackle(D. Hall).

Re: The Official Defense Has Major Issues/Fire Jim Haslett Thread
Well the Defense against the Texans was bad, yesterday it sucked....lets see how with play in Philly. Im thinking Vick and company are gonna put up big numbers against us.
I think it safe to say our defense has been the stronger part of this team for the last decade. Our offense has been garbage for that sametime, especially the last couple years. The expectations going into this year was yes growing pains into the new scheme. I did not expect us to be last in Defense per the yardage stats at this point in time. Bottomline, there is no f*ckin excuse for a f*ckin rookie QB to pick apart are defense, and beat our ass the second half the way they did. Haslett did a PISS POOR job with adjustments in the second half and overall game planning yesterday.

Re: The Official Defense Has Major Issues/Fire Jim Haslett Thread
We gave up 4 yards per carry last year (16th in the league), and we've given up 3.5 yards per carry so far this year (11th).

You're using yesterdays game as the only example and forgetting all about last week. Did you watch last weeks game? I don't remember any QB throwing for almost 500 yards against our defense. The defense blew a 17 point lead and never made any adjustments. That's the most annoying thing so far. I've yet to see Haslett adjust to what the other teams play caller is doing. How many times did Schaub run that bootleg and what did Haslett do about it? |

Re: The Official Defense Has Major Issues/Fire Jim Haslett Thread
On an unrelated note -- everyone picks out the non-call on Landry in the endzone right before half-time. Howie Long was bitching about it on the half-time show on FOX.
No one seems to remember that earlier in the half, there was an obvious pass interference on Joey Galloway in the endzone that would have put the ball on the 1-yard line. So in that sense, we were even. |
