Re: RGIII Named Starter

i think its going to be big for him learning ways to avoid uneeded shots by sliding/getting to the ground or out of bounds

He's 220, could probably put on 10 lbs of muscle without it changing his game any. I'm not really worried about it.

Re: RGIII Named Starter

The guy is a little on the smaller side but he has a solid frame and there are plenty of qb's in the nfl that are his size or smaller and they survive. I think we are questioning his durability because most of us can't stop thinking of him as Mike Vick. He isn't he is going to be his own man. Lets see how he plays the nfl game before we start worring about him getting injured.

Re: RGIII Named Starter

Getting injured is a legitimate concern for any QB.
And if the offense is gonna contain some designed QB runs he's gonna have to learn to get down.
For as much as Cam is praised for being a power runner and running over people, he's very situationally aware about when and where to fight for more yards or the get down.
Griffin is gonna have to learn when and how to slide/get down.

Listened the presser don't get the vibe that we'll be run the option.
I think Mike S. was just applauding Griffiin's skillset.
Griffin has the speed to really challenge defenses on the perimeter which can be done through Mike S. offense without running the option.

Pretty much the impression I got.

Though I could see Griffin going out for a pass every now and then

Not only that, he's much bigger than RGIII and probably dishes out as much punishment, if not more, than what his would be tacklers would dish out.

I did get a different impression, and it could just be Mike's standard presser subterfuge, but when he was talking about Griff being able to run the option as well as guys like Cam, and Tebow, who both had success respectively, running the option at this level, it lead me in another direction.

I hear what you're saying though, and agree that MS was also doting over all of RG3s athletic ability, and intelligence.

I also agree with the fact that RG3s speed can really threaten defenses on the perimeter within the parameters of the system, but I believe that there is an antidote to most offensive attacks, it's just not every defense that can execute it effectively. So the thing that concerns me is running much of the same (play action bootleg, stretch right, stretch left) without again becoming predictable, and redundant. I do think adding option looks could only bode well if we want to keep defenses off balance, pull more defenders into the box etc.

I'm talking simple folds, like shotgun zone read option. Things that wouldn't stray so far from our current system, but would cause defenses to question what they were seeing.

Right, but the point i was going for was that while Cam's size is a benefits its his ability to avoid the taking unneccesary that allowed him to play 16 games.
If you think back to the Redskins vs Cam game: Cam ran the ball 10 times.
The only times I recall him getting hit while running was twice on the goalline trying to score.
He scored on a long run untouched, ran out of bounds a couple times, and at different times layed down/slid in front of Landry, Fletcher and Rocky52 IIRC.

Don't get me wrong, I certainly see the benefit and potential of using the zone-read as a package in the offense.
Like I said before:

But from listening to that presser and knowing/looking at Kyle I don't see us running much or any zone-read although imo we should.
If you have a talent like Griffin you almost owe it to yourself to try some things.
