That’s because of our defense and running game. Alex Smith has little to do with our record. If we want to be a contender our QB is gonna have to play at a high level at some point and air it out to win gun fights. We saw what happened the last two times we got into a shoot out (Saints and Colts). Smith couldn’t keep up. Our offense is one dimensional, and eventually it will be a problem. Re: Giants Postgame
Me too....I just wished the Redskins would wear the white jerseys with the burgundy pants at home like when Gibbs and Turner coached the team.

Norman on the team right now "we have some grown men in the trenches"
"Alex doesn't turn the ball over and hurt us on defense"

Tress Way on #RedskinsTalk pod: "Anytime you got Alex Smith on the field, you feel good about whatever we're gonna be doing. The dude's just gonna win the game."

Also on the other side of the ball, I've heard Mason Foster has the same type of effect....where Norman and Swearinger get every pumped on the D, in the front seven Foster is a calming, cerebral affect especially on long drives, pivotal situations. |

Re: Giants Postgame
Smith not turning it over is definitely a big factor in winning, let’s not overlook that. With little margin for error it’s huge.

Re: Giants Postgame
He also does not take any points for granted. He flat out hustled to prevent a TD on the Peterson fumble. Not many QBs would do that. It is quite possible the Skins loses that game if he doesn't.

Re: Giants Postgame
5-2
Are we reliant on the running game and defense? Yup. 5-2 Will the passing game be a problem if we start getting into shoot-outs? Yup. 5-2 Could the passing game improve over the next nine games? Yup. 5-2 Right now, we are on a three game win streak based off of a freakishly good D-Line that has a solid rotation and depth w/ two terrific run-stoppers behind them. We are running the ball well behind a line of two potential all-pros and solid work from the rest of the line. We are winning the turnover battle with a QB who, as a rule throughout his career, seems to avoid stupid interceptions and protects the ball. We a RB with old legs but generational talent. 5-2 There is nothing gimmicky about this approach. It is not a "Once other teams figure us out, this formula will no longer work." Rather, it is an age old formula, win the trenches, run the ball, stop the run, and protect the ball. It will never be pretty. In the new NFFL (National Flag Football League), it won't make the highlight reels. It will just win games. 5-2 In the latest ESPN power rankings, we are 13th. The Carolina Panthers (who we beat) are 6th. The Green Bay Packers (who we beat) are 11th. Philadelphia (at 4-4 and whom we lead by two games in the division) are 9th. Apparently, LOTS of people do not think this formula works in the current NFL. 5-2 Atlanta is a huge game. Win at home against a potent offense. If we do win, it will likely come down to the last 2:00 with our D trying to hold off one more score. Even if we do win, however, it will likely be written off as a fluke unless we put up gaudy statistics. 6-2.

To quote Mike Tomlin a few years back "I dont give a damn about stats, I give a damn about winning" I think we got used to seeing a high scoring Offense with Kirk running the show , big throws down field Etc... But we didn't win much. As for the ranking that is just the national media showing its bias colors to the "stars" Cam Newton, Wentz etc.
