Greg A. Bedard, of the Palm Beach Post, repots Miami Dolphins PK Olindo Mare expressed some frustration Wednesday, March 15, with the team's latest request to restructure his contract. "I've taken two or three in the past couple years. Every year, I've gotten basically a pay cut," said Mare, who is scheduled to make $1.4 million this season. "How far down we'll go, I don't know. they've ramped up their FA efforts now that their QB position is secured. Mare would be someone to look at if he's released.

Re: Official NFL Free Agent Signings Thread

From Mark Maske at the Post:

Garcia To Back Up McNabb

The Eagles agreed to a one-year contract with free agent quarterback Jeff Garcia to have the veteran back up Donovan McNabb. Both have clashed with Owens in the past, so they'll have plenty to discuss.

The Eagles also have reached a one-year agreement with free agent wide receiver Jabar Gaffney, formerly of the Houston Texans. The club was able to work out the deal with Rosenhaus, who represents Gaffney. Gaffney is a cousin of Eagles cornerback Lito Sheppard.

Philadelphia also re-signed free agent wideout Darnerien McCants. . . .

Linebacker Willie McGinest, released by New England, reunited with Romeo Crennel, the former Patriots defensive coordinator who's now Cleveland's head coach, by agreeing to a three-year, $12 million contract with the Browns that includes $6 million in guaranteed money. The busy Browns also signed free agent guard Bob Hallen, formerly of San Diego. . . .

Free agent linebacker Nate Webster left Cincinnati by agreeing to a two-year, $1.5 million deal with Denver that includes a $200,000 signing bonus. . . . The Bengals re-signed safety Anthony Mitchell. . . . Green Bay re-signed wideout Rod Gardner and offensive tackle Kevin Barry, both unrestricted free agents, and defensive lineman Kenny Peterson, a restricted free agent. The Packers also added defensive tackle Ryan Pickett, an unrestricted free agent from St. Louis. . . . Seattle re-signed wide receiver Peter Warrick and defensive tackle Rocky Bernard. . . . The Lions re-signed running back Shawn Bryson. . . . Pittsburgh re-signed tight end Jerame Tuman and offensive tackle Barrett Brooks. . . . Safety Chris Hope left the Steelers via free agency by agreeing to a six-year contract with Tennessee. . . . Walt Harris, a cornerback released by the Redskins, agreed to a deal with San Francisco.

Free Agent Market Already Winding Down

Falcons | Still trying to complete an Abraham deal
Thu, 16 Mar 2006 22:38:57 -0800

ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports the New York Jets and Atlanta Falcons are still trying to come up with the right formula for a trade that would bring Jets' franchise free agent DE John Abraham to Atlanta. Abraham was expected to undergo a physical examination Friday morning, March 17, for the Falcons. It is believed that the Falcons are attempting to ascertain Abraham's financial expectations, which are said to include between $15 million and $18 million in guarantees, on a long-term contract. The Falcons must also agree on a trade package which satisfies the Jets, and Atlanta's steadfast reluctance to part with backup QB Matt Schaub has made that a difficult proposition. There are unsubstantiated rumors that Abraham would prefer to play in Atlanta, because of its proximity to his native South Carolina.

Raiders | Team will visit with A. Simmons
Thu, 16 Mar 2006 22:58:53 -0800

ESPN.com's John Clayton reports the Oakland Raiders will be visiting with street free agent LB Anthony Simmons (Seahawks). He missed last season because of serious wrist problems.

These are two guys we should consider checking out... Walls is 6'4" and could help CB depth andd Simmons averages 1.5ints, 1.6sacks, 1.1FF and 100 tackles a year. Injury problems might be a killer though.

Seahawks | Rumor alert: K. Curtis
Thu, 16 Mar 2006 23:54:05 -0800

Jim Thomas, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reports there are rumors circulating that there may be a late bid by another team, possibly the Seattle Seahawks, for St. Louis Rams restricted free agent WR Kevin Curtis (Rams).

shocked no one's looked at him sooner. he'd cost a 3rd rounder if signed.
Also, vinateri wants a bigger deal than longwell got. (over 2mill/yaer and more than a 3mill bonus). He's in GB now.
