I mentioned last year that Shanahan likes Leinart (like him 5 years ago at least) and that there were rumors Leinart might be with the Skins via a trade (for a late conditional pick). It's still possible, but less likely now I think. Leinart's a free agent and I don't believe he wants to be here, prefers to stay out west (Though if Jeff Fisher comes calling, that might be different)

The Alex Smith speculation I seem to have started here is based more on what I know of what type of QB may interest them (and a couple other things), but the name Alex Smith has been only casually mentioned in passing. So, if you were to ask me what FA QB they going after based on information directly given I'd tell you Leinart, Bulger, or even JaMarcus Russell before I said Alex Smith. But if you read between some of the lines (lines which I know not everyone has access to read). Similarly, when you-the collective you-asked last year about who the Redskins would draft. The conventional names I gave were Russell Okung, Eric Berry...but reading between the lines it was Trent Williams.
If Alex Smith was given a shot i wouldnt b*tch too much, but geez watching him play bout 5 different times over the season...he was pretty bad. It really seemed to me the 49ers offensive cordinator(s) were all pretty effing bad which didnt help. I just think it would be an automatic Grossman could play just as well. If you bring another vet in, the assumption must be he has the potential to start over Grossman. Vince Young, Matt Lienart I could see given a shot......Alex Smith is iffy IMO

Leinart makes the most sense out of all the free agents simply because he not only knows our system but he's also looking for a chance to start. I personally always liked him, but he did have a tendency to become Captain Checkdown as of late.

I know I kid about Smith going to the pro bowl and all that but I do like the prospect of him coming to Washignton as a reclamation project. The mobilitiy, the fire, the fact that he hasn't had a good offensive coordinator since Norv.

Young, I love his talent but he needs to be coddled and he won't get that here.

Russell on the other hand needs discipline and structure and here he'll get it, but personally his past scares me and he doesn't have another pro to fall back on like a year in our system (a la Leinart).

If we can't find a QB that the coaching staff isn't comfortable with in the first round then trying to revive the careers of a good sized list of top 10 QB's won't be such a bad deal.

Another thing in regards to the QBs is what vets may be on the chopping block? I was really hoping for Marvin Lewis to leave and a major shake up in the organization. I was hoping the shaking up might include Carson Palmer...damn Hasselbeck looked pretty gud last week. I just think he is too old at this point

I think Orton's price will come down but then again maybe Elway wants to keep him..

Kolb will command a 2nd but I'm not sure why, he hasnt played great in his starts

I would at some point people thought high of him, and he's gotten better

I definitely will be upset if we don't get a new center!

We need guards not centers. Will Montgomery and Lichtensteiger have no business starting at guard even though they are ok depth at guard. They are centers.

I wouldn't go so far as to say we DON'T NEED a center. We do, we just need guards worse IMO based on the personnel we already have.

At this point I'd take Bulger over Grossman or McNabb. He's a pretty damn good pure passer. He just needs a strong o-line in front of him. Not the playmaker that McNabb is but he can make all the throws and is very accurate.

But that's the thing. He's 33 and he needs a strong o-line. We're not there yet, and when/if we are what will he have to offer us. I'm not saying he can't help a team, just not sure it's ours

I never said in absolute terms that we don't need one at all. However, if we're getting another one, the C will probably be similar to Lichtensteiger skillset-wise.

I swear when I first read that it said skillet-wise. I couldn't help thinking to myself, is he doubling as team chef??

Just found this article today about a rumor Detroit is interested in trading for Haynesworth. I would love to see if there is any validity to this or just offseason journalistic speculation.

Haynesworth to Detroit?
