Re: Redskins Sign DeSean Jackson

I really liked the 2nd part of Louis Riddick's article regarding DJ, I hope JG/BA have a plan in place for how to handle working with him and all the possible disappointing scenarios. I know this wasn't a move expected this offseason and it might be a case of "oooh new shiny toy on the shelf let's play with it" but I hope they are prepared in case his attitude springs up again. Also gotta give them major props for the contract, talk about a great deal for us. I saw a report that said we were committing huge money, so I was thinking it would be in the 10/mil year range, but seriously, way to go FO on getting him to sign for a reasonable deal.

Who's a better WR?

Garçon or DJax?

Just curious what you guys think...

I'm happy to be able to even have that conversation.

DJax has been the better of the two, but Garçon is trending upward - fast.

This. Jackson has better career stats, but Garcon has been the better of the two recently. And while it would be nice to have a Megatron or an Andre Johnson, these two WRs we have are both excellent talents.

DJax is lightning in a bottle but I'd take Pierre if I had to make the choice. DJax will have games where he disappears, he struggles in press coverage. Pierre is more consistent, 5+ catches in every game last year.

And they'll both make each other deadlier this year. The only question is can we block well enough to take advantage of this weaponry.

Hopefully a bigger offensive line will help with this. I think RG3's quickness and accuracy will be key. If he does well in those areas, I think will help the o-line a lot.

Garcon is the more complete player.

I think they are vastly different. Djax is a burner with great hands, and Garcon is a beast after the catch - also great hands. I think their styles and talents will compliment each other very well.

If DJax is going to self-destruct with us, let's hope he waits a couple of years or that guaranteed money will come back to bite us.

The $8 mil./year average is a reasonably good deal for a player of his talents.

Re: Redskins Sign DeSean Jackson

Here is a good look at the contract and what it means for DJax and for the Skins from the guys at overthecap.com:

Breaking Down the DeSean Jackson Signing and the Future of the Redskins - Over the Cap

from the article:
Quote:
It also means that Washington’s top three receivers—Jackson, Pierre Garcon and Andre Roberts—will count for $22.7 million against the 2015 cap. While this is quite a large cap number for a team’s receiving core to assume, this shouldn’t have long-term cap implications for the Redskins; all three players can be released with minimal cap damage after 2015.

D-Jax will go back to his old #1 from Cal Poly Long Beach days, my guess.
