Re: Alex Effect - 2019 Draft
There's no way Alex would forgo 41 Mil. This exact scenario is why that clause is even in the contract.

Re: Alex Effect - 2019 Draft
Doc Walker is saying there is a rumor that Smith had complications from his surgery.
They aren't saying what. Alex is another SD guy and a class act. I wish him well. |

Re: Alex Effect - 2019 Draft
Alex will be missed no matter what people say, yeah he didn't light it up for us but he was a stand up guy and a leader. This is a big blow to the organization if he can't come back, which it sounds like he won't. U hate to go right to football but now this team 100% needs to draft a QB and maybe even 2 again.

Partial reconstruction can include anything up to and including amputation. He needs things to go right for him. If you're the praying type I'd offer some up.

Re: Alex Effect - 2019 Draft
Zach Miller from Chicago had the same type of infection happen I believe, and they thought he would lose his leg. Luckily he is better now but obv. he can't play on it.

Re: Alex Effect - 2019 Draft
It’s funny I was just thinking this week we should be due for some sort of update on Alex and now word of an infection. Not uncommon with that type of injury but still, wish him the best

Re: Alex Effect - 2019 Draft
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300...esperate-teams
Coach Jay Gruden and team president Bruce Allen never expected to be in this position after signing Alex Smith to a four-year contract extension last March with $55 million guaranteed. There's no telling how Smith will recover from the compound leg fracture he suffered last month -- Thursday brought the troubling news that he's battling an infection related to his leg surgery -- but, unfortunately, the specifics of Smith's contract could force Washington to make an early decision about his future. Even though the Redskins owe $15 million guaranteed to Smith next season, they could decide to cut him before the fifth day of the new league year in 2019 to avoid guaranteeing his 2020 salary. This is the brutal calculus of NFL injuries. Even in a best-case scenario for Smith's recovery, the Redskins are overdue to draft a potential replacement. Gruden has never attempted to develop a highly drafted young quarterback in Washington. (This all assumes Gruden is around to coach the team for a sixth season, which he deserves considering the awful injury luck his team has had the last two years.) The Gruden family's style is to look for veterans, so perhaps the Redskins could be players in the Teddy Bridgewater or Tyrod Taylor market. Yuck no thanks on Tyrod or Teddy but I guess we may have no choice
